Flights to Ndola
Places in the DRC
The town of Ndola is very near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo, in northern Zambia. It's part of the Copperbelt region, and mining has long been the main industry for Ndola, though there are a few tourist attractions here too.
Flights to Ndola
The Ndola Airport (airport code: NLA) does handle some international flights to Ndola, but usually only from a few neighbouring African nations. There are several options for both 1 and 2 stop flights to Ndola from the UK. Travelling with South African Airways, British Airways or BMI will bring you through Johannesburg for one transfer. Virgin Atlantic and Kenya Airways both have the same route through Nairobi as well as Johannesburg. An average flight to Ndola will be between 15 and 20 hours long in total.
Ndola Tourist Attractions
Copperbelt Museum
The Copperbelt Museum is the main museum in town and it showcases the history of copper mining in the area. This industry has been vital for Ndola and you can learn more about how copper is mined and processed at the museum.
Nsobe Game Camp
About 40 miles from Ndola is the Nsobe Game Camp where you can take part in several different outdoors activities and see some local wildlife. There are safari tours, hiking, bird-watching, boating and more at the camp. Some of the animals that are common here are the zebra, giraffe, many species of antelope and more. You have the choice of staying in bush tents or the more modern chalets for your stay.
Kitwe
Just a short drive to the west of Ndola is the town of Kitwe, and there are some large mines in that town worth a visit. There are several open pits and tailing dams to make for some interesting scenery around the town. While in Kitwe, you can see the Mwekwera Falls that are just outside of the city. Also near Kitwe is the Chembe Bird Sanctuary. There you can do some serious bird-watching, enjoy a picnic or go for a boat ride on the lake. Kitwe is a larger city than Ndola so you can also find a little more choice for shopping and restaurants while you are there if you wanted to explore the city itself.
Lower Zambezi National Park
Though it will take about 5 hours to drive from Ndola, the Lower Zambezi National Park is a great natural park for safari trips, boating and fishing. Wildlife in this park includes hippos, buffalo, elephants, impalas, crocodiles and several other classic African animals. The city of Lusaka is not far from the park and would be a good day trip in itself if you are looking for “big city” amenities while staying in Zambia.
