There are 53 countries within it and various island groups too; the continent is diverse and hold many different people, languages and sub-cultures. Many UK tourists who go to Africa go for the incredible landscapes and the amazing safaris. Africa is the home of many exotic animals such as lions and tigers, giraffes, gazelles etc. Just some of the countries that make up the continent of Africa include Algeria, Angola, Botswana, Cameroon, Congo, Egypt, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya Libya, Malawi, Morocco, Niger, Rwanda, Senegal, Somalia, South Africa, Sudan, Togo, Tunisia, Zimbabwe and more. Some of these countries have documented troubles, so you just check before you go if it is a suitable time to visit.

Flights

There are not a hug amount of flights from the UK to Africa in general, so prices are generally higher. Direct flights are generally from the London airports like Gatwick and Heathrow although fights with changes are available from other airports, although the easiest what is normally via London. Some locations like Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia are very poplar and prices are competitive. Over the British Winter and summer, flights are still at a premium because people are going during school holidays but also when they want to escape the chills on the UK. You can fly with Air France or Afrigihah Airways, although Easyjet, Ryanair and Thomsonfly now go to Morocco and Tunisia. The local airport is Tambo International (in Johannesburg, South Africa) and Cairo (in Egypt).

Climate

Even though Africa is large, the climate generally is warm as it sits over the equator. On the coasts the weather is cooler, and the centre of the continent is very hot and dry. The average temperature around this area is 27 degrees centigrade. The north and south has what is called a rainforest climate and has a wet season during the summer months. The annual rainfall varies from 20 inches to 60 inches.

What to do

Don’t forget that when going to Africa you will need vaccinations for diseases such as malaria, which is easily spread though mosquito’s (you will need these 2 months in advance and will need to pay for them).

Safari is one of the top things for tourists to do. In Tanzania, there are many nature reserves to visit and watch. There will be special day drips you can go on where the tour guide will take you in a safe car to the best location and at a suitable time of day. In Tanzania, there is for example the specialized Chimpanzee program in the marks of the Mahal Mountains.

In Kenya there is a lot of lush land; Kenya is also a growing city and you can meet the locals and get n idea of authentic African life; it is also the home of the Masaii. There are lots of high end reports to stay in Kenya where even the Royals have stayed.

In Zanzibar, there are various beaches that are unspoilt; Unguja, Pemba, Mafia are all pristine. Don’t forget you camera, and a good quality one at that, as well as suitable protective gear fro the extremely hot weather.
