Places in Morocco
Located in North Africa, Morocco is an inviting and appealing country that for many visitors is their first introduction to the African continent. Morocco has plenty going for it including historical cities, culture, beaches, and desert.
Flights to Morocco
The busiest international airport for flights to Morocco is the Mohammed V International Airport (airport code: CMN), in the popular tourist city of Casablanca, though there are several other major airports that can handle international flights to Morocco too. A flight to Morocco to Casablanca is available from the UK direct with Royal Air Maroc, otherwise you’ll need a one or two stop flight. Iberia for example connects in Madrid. Flights to Morocco’s Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) are most common from the UK though, including flights with EasyJet, Ryanair, Atlas Blue, and Thomson Airways.
Morocco Tourist Attractions
A holiday in Morocco is suitable for many different tourists, whether you’re looking to experience some of the Moroccan culture, see the historical old cities, or enjoy its miles upon miles of beaches, you’ll find something here for just about everyone.
Casablanca
Casablanca is probably the best known city in Morocco, thanks in a large part to the film of the same name! It’s Morocco’s largest city and can sometimes be a disappointment to visitors who are expecting a lot from it, due to the very busy streets and overwhelming noise and pollution. If you’re coming to Morocco on a flight into Casablanca you should at least spend a few days here though, taking in some of the sights that include the world’s second largest mosque, King Hassan II Mosque. This is one of only a few mosques in Morocco that is open to non-Muslims so a good opportunity to look inside this vast place.
Rabat
Rabat is not considered so much of a tourist destination when compared to Casablanca and Marrakech even though it’s the capital of Morocco. Rabat is actually a very nice city to visit because it’s quieter and less hectic than Casablanca. If you want to experience the real Morocco, Rabat is a great place to do so! Here you can visit popular attractions like the Kasbah, the Medina, Chellah, the National Archaeological Museum, the Hassan Tower and Royal Mausoleum.
Marrakech
With several different airlines offering flights to Marrakech from the UK this city is definitely popular with the British! It’s a good compromise if you want a large city but not too large, being the third largest in Morocco, and is famous for its great souks – the markets. Landmarks include the El Bahia Palace, the Koutoubia Mosque, the Saadian Tombs, the Dar Si Said Museum, and the ruined El Badi Palace.
Fez
Fez is well known too and well liked because of its excellent historical attractions. Fez was the medieval capital of Morocco and still today retains itself as the best preserved old city in the Arab world. The Medina here in Fez is one of the best in the country and a great place to spend hours wandering around, and no doubt getting lost!
Agadir
Morocco is not all about large and crowded cities though, it has some excellent beaches to offer too. Agadir is one of the most popular as it includes some great beaches as well as a city where you can see sights, and make use of restaurants and shops.
When Should You Visit Morocco?
Summer is definitely the peak time to visit Morocco when the mainly Mediterranean climate offers warm to hot temperatures and little rainfall. During the winter the coastal areas are mild, but quite wet so no good for a beach holiday, but possibly ok for sightseeing.
