Flights to Manzini
Places in Swaziland
Manzini is neither the capital nor the largest city of Swaziland but for tourists it’s probably the best known. It’s the second largest city in Swaziland and home to the country’s only international airport, plus it’s a popular gateway to the Hlane Royal National Park.
Flights to Manzini
Currently the Matsapha Airport (airport code: MTS) is Swaziland’s only international airport and it’s located just minutes outside the city centre. Flights to Manzini will arrive here until a new airport, Sikhuphe International Airport, is opened in the near future. At present, flights to Manzini from the UK can have one or two stops flying via Johannesburg in South Africa. South African Airways, Virgin Atlantic Airways and British Airways all offer a one stop flight to Swaziland, or there’s a range of other airlines available for two stop flights including Emirates, Lufthansa and Egyptair.
Manzini Tourist Attractions
Manzini is the second largest city in Swaziland and it’s considered to be one of the major business centres of the country, and Swaziland’s industrial centre. This doesn’t sound as though Manzini would really appeal to tourists, but with the city being home to the country’s only international airport, Manzini is the major gateway into the country and there are facilities and services for tourists in line with that.
In the centre of Manzini is the downtown core; a compact and easy to walk area where you’ll find some of those aforementioned facilities and services. If you’re staying within the centre of Manzini and have no need for visiting the suburbs you can easily get around by taxi, or by foot.
In terms of tourist attractions there’s not a great deal to speak of in Manzini itself but the city’s proximity to the Hlane Royal National Park is a big attraction. It’s about 40 miles from Manzini and there are buses running between the city and the park entrance. Alternatively, if you’re renting a car, you can drive into the park if you have a guide, or park and use the park’s own minibus service.
Once inside Hlane Royal National Park you have a number of options. The park is best known as a great place for tracking (on foot) elephants and rhinos. If you join a guided bush walk in the north of the park you’re more likely to spot these creatures and it’s reputed that spotting a rhino is almost guaranteed. These aren’t the only animals you could see though as this national park is also home to other species including lions, leopards and cheetahs, zebras and giraffes.
If you want to spend more than a day here and don’t want to travel back to Manzini you can say in the park itself. There are two camps; one is more remote but has electricity, while the one with a restaurant and more spacious accommodation is without electricity!
When Should You Visit Manzini?
Most of the rain Manzini experiences falls during the summer months and because rainfall is excessive, this may not be a god time to visit. Being in the southern hemisphere the summer is from November to March, and temperatures can be warm, but not usually uncomfortable. Spring and summer are drier and warm, with average temperatures only a few degrees cooler than in the summer.
