Places in Zimbabwe
As the second largest city in Zimbabwe, you will find that Bulawayo is a modern city with all possible amenities for travellers. The city itself doesn't hold too many tourist attractions but the surrounding areas are filled with great sights to see.

The Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport (airport code: BUQ) is also still just called the Bulawayo Airport. Bulawayo Tourist Attractions
Khami Ruins
The ruins of the city of Khami are about 14 miles away from Bulawayo to the west, and have extensive stone walls and open-air passageways still intact even though the city is more than 500 years old. Overall, the site stretches over 1 mile and there is also a small museum there displaying some of the artefacts that have been found at the site.
Matobo National Park
The Matobo National Park is one of the main draws for Bulawayo, and it is home to rhinos, antelopes, zebras, giraffes, ostriches and leopards. The wildlife is abundant but that is not the only reason why people come to this park. There are a number of large granite stone formations in the area, including several naturally placed balancing stones. In the park you can go hiking as well as arrange a tour group for game-viewing by vehicle. There are also trails for horse-back riding if you want a different experience. The Hwange National Park is another option, though quite a bit farther than Matobo. It's a very large park and ideal for longer safari trips.
Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage
The Chipangali Wildlife Orphanage takes in wild animals that have been injured or orphaned, and hopefully release them back into the wild once they are able to fend for themselves. Some cannot be released and live permanently at the park in Bulawayo. You can take a tour of their facilities and see whatever animals they happen to be caring for at the time. It's not a zoo, nor is it a very large facility, but it is an interesting place and a chance to see some animals much closer than you normally are able to.
Tshabalala Game Santuary
Yet another opportunity to see African wildlife around Bulawayo, is at the Tshabalala Game Sanctuary and it’s only 6 miles from the city. They have all the usual game animals living there, such as zebra, wildebeest, giraffe and many more. You can get out of your car at this park and take a walk instead of having to drive. It's a smaller park than the Matobo Park but it does offer different scenery and varying animal populations.
When Should You Visit Bulawayo?
The weather in Bulawayo doesn't vary much through the year so just about any month will be fine for travelling, though October through March will be the warmest. It will be around 28C (82F) for that time, though it will cool quite a bit in the evenings. June and July are the coolest, when it will only be 21C (70F) and very comfortable for outdoor sight-seeing.
