Zimbabwe Tourist Attractions
Victoria Falls
The best known attraction and one of the world’s greatest natural attractions is Victoria Falls. Though shared with neighbouring Zambia, everyone agrees that the view from the Zimbabwe side of Victoria Falls is far more impressive than from the Zambian side. The Victoria Falls National Park is on the Zimbabwean side too and to fully appreciate all of the wonderful scenery in the area you should plan to stay here for several nights at least. The town of Victoria Falls is well geared towards serving tourists, so you have somewhere close by to stay.
Many visitors prefer to visit Victoria Falls during the rainy season, or just after, when the volume of water cascading over the falls is far greater. The roar of water combined with the views does make this a great time to visit. Alternatively you can come during the dry season when there will be far less water, but you do get to see the rock formations of Victoria Falls in greater detail.
Zimbabwe’s National Parks
Zimbabwe has eight national parks allowing tourists to see a range of landscapes and wildlife across them. The largest is Hwange National Park and it’s renowned for its plentiful wildlife. You’re bound to see elephants in the wild here because there’s a very successful population of them, plus the park is home to all of the protected animals of Zimbabwe.
Ancient Cities
Zimbabwe doesn’t just offer great natural attractions, there are man-made ones too. Several ancient cities exist here including Great Zimbabwe which was home to the Empire of Great Zimbabwe. The site has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986 because of its cultural importance, and it covers a vast expanse of between 100 and 200 miles.
Harare
A far more modern city can be experienced in the capital of Zimbabwe, Harare. Though not as old as the ancient cities Harare does still offer still historical and culturally important sites and there are a number of well preserved buildings in which to see this.
Climbing Kopje, the large granite hill on the outskirts of the city is a popular pursuit, as you can get great birds-eye views of Harare from here.
When Should You Visit Zimbabwe?
If you want to come to Zimbabwe and see Victoria Falls during the rainy season you should come between November and March. April to October is very different as there’s next to no rain at all.
