Asia is the world’s largest and arguably one of the most exciting continents in the world. What it offers is variety and diversity. Asia is split into various sections; Central Asia covers the lesser visited states such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, East Asia covers China, Japan and Korea, North Asia includes Russia, South East Asia includes Singapore, Thailand and Indonesia, South Asia includes Afghanistan, Pakistan and India, and West Asia includes Israel, United Arab Emirates and Jordan. These are only a fraction of the countries that make up Asia. When visiting Asia, you will need to do some research and decide on what kind of experience you are looking for; or why not visit a few countries in the continent?

Flights

Flying to Asia from the UK will take longer than flying to Europe and generally longer than flying to America. Remember that planning is important – one destination or a few? Many travellers take the opportunity to visit Asia as a way of viewing a few countries. The most popular destinations include India, Hong Kong, China, Japan, Thailand, and Malaysia but there are many locations to choose from; the more popular destinations have frequent flights and competitive prices. Rarer locations will have less availability and therefore higher prices. You can generally fly from any major UK airport to an Asian destination, using major Airlines like Virgin, British Airways, Cathay Pacific etc. Some locations will require a change of plane and you need to check if there are any complications with a British passport when entering your location.

Climate in Asia

Asia stretches almost half way across the globe, therefore depending on where you travel, the climate will vary. You have a combination of the driest, hottest, wettest and coldest places on earth. Central Asia is very far from the Ocean so you have the extremes of the weather; hot, dry summers and cold, wet winters. Apart from on the mountainous terrain, most of the land is desert. In North Asia, the climate is similar to central Asia but wit more rainfall. In south Asia, the climate is very hot as it is closer to the equator. Generally there is no winter but a rainy monsoon season (such as in India and Thailand). Rainy season will last from June to October when the rain is incessant and relentless; annoying for the sun seeking tourists but essential for the locals who rely on this rain for their crops to grow.

What to do in Asia

Asia is a huge place and therefore has plenty of things to do, no matter what it is you enjoy. Russia is an incredible country to visit, although it is always wise to stick to the large cities and guided tour holidays. South East Asia is very popular with tourists; visit Malaysia and Thailand if you love beaches, or Hong Kong and Japan if you love technology and to shop. India and Pakistan have frequent flights and have hot weather as well as lots of delicious food to try and famous sights to see.
