Flights to Ipoh
Places in Malaysia
Ipoh is the state capital of Perak in Malaysia, and many of the buildings reflect the earlier British Colonial period. The Old Town section of the city is filled with historic buildings, ideal for taking a walk. But the city does have plenty of modern conveniences and amenities as well.
Flights to Ipoh
There’s only a limited service from local airlines for flights to Ipoh arriving at the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport (airport code: IPH). An international flight to Ipoh should come to Medan instead, and from there you can get a flight with either Riau Airlines or Silverfly to Ipoh. In Medan, the airport is the Polonia International Airport (code: MES), and both BMI and Malaysia Airlines have 1-stop flights. They both connect in Kuala Lumpur. You can also get a 2-stop flight to Ipoh with Lufthansa, with transfers in Frankfurt and Singapore.
Ipoh Tourist Attractions
Seenivasagam Park
Seenivasagm Park is a popular park within the city, where you can go for a pleasant walk through the trees and see the flower gardens. There is a playground for kids, a pond and several pavilions through the park. A new Japanese garden has recently been added.
Local Caves and Temples
There are several areas where you can see old Buddhist temples near Ipoh, located in limestone caves near the city. The best locations that you should visit are Perak Tong, Sam Poh Tong and Kek Lok Tong.
Lost World of Tambun
A modern-day water park is a fun diversion after exploring the more cultural sights of Ipoh. There are water slides, a sandy beach, waterfalls, hot springs, petting zoo and amusement park rides at the Lost World of Tambun. The park is open 6 days a week, being closed on Tuesdays. It's located right within the city, and with all the signs, you can't miss it.
Muzium Darul Ridzuan
A museum for the local history of Ipoh, Muzium Darul Ridzuan is located near the beautiful railway station (which is worth a visit in itself). In particular, you can see displays on the mining industry roots of the city. Admission is free and it's open 7 days a week.
Kellie's Castle
A local oddity, this mansion was built by a Scottish immigrant but abandoned before it was complete. Mysterious deaths seemed to surround the construction project, and William Kellie Smith himself died overseas. There are several underground tunnels, one leading to the Hindu temple built on the property nearby. Some say the ruins are haunted, but even if you're not searching for ghosts, it's a beautiful old home to visit. It's about 20 minute drive from Ipoh in Batu Gajah.
When Should You Visit Ipoh?
With their tropical rainforest climate, you can expect hot temperatures and frequent rainfall consistently through the year. Across the year, temperatures will have average highs of 32 or 33C (90 or 91F), but it can be a degree or two cooler in October and November. This is also the rainiest time of the year though and may not be suitable for sightseeing. To avoid the rain, plan your trip to Ipoh either during February or June.
