The Kuala Lumpur International Airport (airport code: KUL) is where international flights to Kuala Lumpur will land. The airport is about 31 miles (50km) outside of the city, connected by shuttles and taxis. Your journey to Kuala Lumpur from the UK can be made with direct or indirect flights. Malaysia Airlines provides travellers with direct flights to Kuala Lumpur from the UK. Transfer points vary by airline, for the 1-stop flights. British Airways and Thai Airways International both connect in Bangkok, and KLM transfers in Amsterdam. Qantas and Virgin travel through Singapore instead.

KL is an attractive city with lots of open spaces and natural attractions, yet it has a vastly modern side to it as well, with attractions like the KL Tower.
National Museum (Muzium Negara)
This is the place to visit if you want to learn more about Malaysian culture, history and tradition. Indoors there are exhibits of statuary, artwork, weapons, currency and much more. The walls are decorated with mosaics and carvings. Outdoor exhibits focus on transportation, and include traditional carts and a steam engine.
KL Bird Park
Kuala Lumpur's bird park and aviary is in the large Perdana Lake Garden, and is home to more than 5,000 birds. You can see them all in an enclosed aviary building, as the birds are free to fly about inside. There are scheduled feeding times and bird shows during the day. The park is open 7 days a week, and there is a fee to enter.
National Zoo (Zoo Negara)
The National Zoo is the main zoo in Malaysia, and it covers 120 acres with more than 5,000 animals on display. There are 16 sections to the zoo, featuring animals and habitats from many parts of the world. They also have a large freshwater aquarium. The zoo is on a public bus route, and is open daily.
KL Tower
The KL Tower is one of the tallest freestanding towers in the world, and though designed as a communications antenna, there is an observation deck from where visitors can admire the views. The revolving restaurant gives you a chance to see the entire panorama while sitting at your table. The tower is close to the Bukit Nanas Forest Reserve, another city attraction.
Aquaria KLCC
The Aquaria KLCC is an aquarium park with more than 250 different species of fish, sharks, turtles and other water animals. The ocean tunnel lets you walk underwater for the best view. They have many land exhibits as well, like the rainforest room.
Shopping Markets
There are modern shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur, but for a more traditional shopping experience, you should try to visit one of the busy outdoor markets. The most popular is on Petaling Street, and is known as the city's Chinatown area. You can find many modern goods there, as well as a variety of food stalls and more traditional handicrafts. The KL Central Market is another place to go for arts and crafts made locally.
When Should You Visit Kuala Lumpur?
Kuala Lumpur is in a tropical rainforest climate zone, and does not have any real seasonal weather changes. It is basically hot all year long. The average high temperatures are around 32C (90F), and it can be quite rainy. The driest months are June and July.
