The Tourist Attractions of Nepal
The Himalayas
Nepal is most famous for the mountain range it sits upon. The Himalayas are quite spectacular, and form the northern part of the country, though they can be seen for miles around. The most famous peak is of course Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world, plus seven more of the ten highest mountains in the world can be found here.
Ascending Mount Everest has always appealed to adventurers and continues to do so to this day, but scaling this mountain should only be attempted by experienced and very fit hikers and climbers.
Annapurna Circuit
Although Mount Everest, and the rest of the Himalayas, is popular because of the challenge, many more visitors to Nepal prefer to hike on the Annapurna Circuit within the Annapurna Mountains. One of the main reasons behind this is because these mountains are much more accessible than the Himalayas, resulting in this being one of the most popular trekking circuits in the world.
Kathmandu
The famous capital city of Nepal, Kathmandu, is also the largest city in the country and features the beautiful architecture of temples and other historic buildings. Swayambhunath offers great views over the city from its lofty position and is also one of the most scared Buddhist sites in the country.
At the centre of Kathmandu is Kathmandu Durbar Square. This is an ancient square where attractions include the Kathmandu Durbar Square Museum. Also in Kathmandu is another scared Buddhist site, Boudha Stupa.
Nagarkot
About an hour from Kathmandu is the hilltop town of Nagarkot. In addition to being a great place to enjoy hiking in the surrounding pine forests, Nagarkot is popular for its views of the Himalayas, including Mount Everest on the clearest days.
The mountain village of Daman is also popular. The uninterrupted views of the whole of the Himalayas from here are spectacular and the hiking, rock climbing and other activities you can enjoy here will persuade many visitors to stay for longer.
Royal Chitwan National Park
In central Nepal, this UNESCO World Heritage Site allows visitors to see some of the other ecosystems of the country. Safaris through the Royal Chitwan National Park are popular as visitors have the chance to see some of Nepal’s wildlife including elephants, tigers and rhinos.
When Should You Visit Nepal?
Deciding when to visit Nepal can be a challenge, especially if you are planning on touring around the country! The weather can be completely different from one end of the country to the other as Nepal has five climatic zones which vary according to elevation, from tropical to Arctic. Add to this the five seasons experienced here and you can see the difficulty! Visiting in monsoon season is not recommended – this comes after spring and summer, and before autumn and winter.
