Flights to Faisalabad
Places in Pakistan
Faisalabad is Pakistan’s third largest city and it’s located in the north west of the country about 80 miles from Lahore. Faisalabad has an assortment of attractions even though it’s traditionally been an agricultural and industrial city.
Flights to Faisalabad
The Faisalabad International Airport (airport code: LYP) is not large enough to handle any major international flights to Faisalabad, and typically only operates with domestic flights. International flights to Faisalabad are better to arrive in Lahore, and there is a train from there to Faisalabad. The airport in Lahore is the Allama Iqbal International Airport (code: LHE). British Airways and Qantas both have 1-stop routes to Lahore through Bangkok. KLM makes 2 connections, in Amsterdam and then Abu Dhabi.
Faisalabad Tourist Attractions
Compared to some of Pakistan’s other large cities, and especially the nearby city of Lahore, Faisalabad isn’t really considered to be a tourist destination because traditionally it’s been built upon agriculture and industry. Even so, Faisalabad does have some attractive features and if you’re visiting Pakistan anyway, you might like to stop by for a few days to experience a more industrial city as compared to a highly touristic one.
Faisalabad Clock Tower
The Faisalabad Clock Tower is one of the city’s best known landmarks and it’s been here since the times of the British Raj. It was built in the 19th century and is actually one of the oldest monuments still standing in is original state from this period in history. The clock tower is at the centre point of the market which comprises eight old bazaars, that when views from above form the shape of the Union Jack flag. This is the oldest area of Faisalabad and is still one of the city’s most important shopping districts; you can still see the Qaisery Gate here today which was traditionally the entrance into the eight bazaars, and was built in 1857, while just outside this is the historic Gumti Water Fountain.
Jinnah Garden
Jinnah Garden is Faisalabad’s most famous park and it’s located in the centre of the city. This is an attractive oasis that includes walking and cycling trails, snack bars and more, as well as the tomb of H.E. Sir Charles James Lyall. Lyall was the founder of the city and originally Faisalabad was named Lyallpur after him.
Happy Land Water Park
If you feel like cooling off on a hot day then you can visit the Happy Land Water Park. This water park has been built to high international standards and features the largest water slides in Pakistan. This isn’t the only place you can go to cool off in Faisalabad though – there’s another water park, Aqua Land Water Park or make use of the Getwala Swimming Pool and water park.
Along similar lines though not dedicated to water is Sindbad Amusement Park which has bumper cars and other amusements.
When Should You Visit Faisalabad?
Faisalabad has a warm to hot climate that reaches its peak in the spring to summer, especially May, June and July. With average high temperatures of up to 41C this is not the best time to visit Faisalabad if you’re not used to the heat plus you should avid July and August as this is Faisalabad’s rainy season. Even if you visited in January you would enjoy average highs of 19C, though the average lows of 4C are cold in comparison so you should bring a jacket for the evenings.
