Hua Hin is a very popular beach resort town in Thailand, and both locals and tourista alike enjoy travelling here. Hua Hin can be busy during holiday season but there is plenty to see. Most people do come for the beaches, and there are many other natural sights to enjoy as well.

Flights to Hua Hin

There are no commercial flights to Hua Hin Airport (airport code: HHQ), and the most common way of getting to Hua Hin is a 3-hour bus ride from Bangkok. The train is another option but surprisingly this takes hours longer. The airport in Bangkok is the Suvarnabhumi Airport (code: BKK) and you can get a non-stop flight with British Airways or Qantas Airways. A flight to Hua Hin with Lufthansa arriving at Bangkok will stop in Frankfurt, and Malaysia Airlines makes a connection in Kuala Lumpur.

Hua Hin Tourist Attractions

Hua Hin Beach

This is the main local beach for Hua Hin, and it runs the entire length of the city in one long stretch. Many of the town's resort hotels are located along the white sand beach, and the southern end has a Buddhist temple up in the cliffs of Khao Takiab (see below). Other areas around Hua Hin have their own beaches, such as the Suan Son Pradiphat Beach and Hat Sai Noi Beach.

Khao Takiab

Khao Takiab is a large rocky hill (not quite a mountain), about 9 miles from town and there is a good bus route to take you there. There are temples along the hillside and you will find an amazing view of the area from the top. Watch for local monkeys that live on the mountain, and there are more resorts around this area if you are looking for a place to stay just outside of Hua Hin.

Namtok Pa La-u Waterfall

The Namtok Pa La-u Waterfall is another lovely natural attraction that is a short drive outside of Hua Hin. It's part of the Kaeng Krachan National Park, and there are forested trails to reach the falls. The falls aren't huge but they cascade over 11 tiers and make for great photo opportunities as you walk around the park.

Sam Roi Yot National Park

Sam Roi Yot National Park is not that large a park but there are a number of different landscapes for you to walk through including a mangrove swamp and limestone hills. There are also beaches within the park and a large population of migratory water birds. The cave at Tham Phraya Nakhon is a good spot to visit in the park, as are the Tham Kaeo caves. You may have to rent a lamp to see those ones!

When Should You Visit Hua Hin?

The temperature in Hua Hin will only vary by a few degrees across the entire year so you will find it hot no matter when you go. The hottest months are April through August when it is typically around 33C (91F), but then the coolest months of November to January are only 29C (84F). The winter months are the best to go not only because it is slightly cooler, it is also the driest time of the year. You will want to avoid October and November as the rains are quite heavy then.
