Destinations in Thailand
Koh Chang means Elephant Island; maybe because is the second largest Island of Thailand. Koh Chang is one a beautiful location, full of luxury beaches and greenery; perfect for tourists. Koh Chang receives over half a million visitors a year, two thirds of them being Thai. Nevertheless, there are still a lot fewer tourists than on the neighbouring islands of Samui or Phuket, making it a peaceful palace to visit. There are natural mountain terrains on the hills full of plant life and trees; it is full of interesting animals, birds and fauna, although some of this has been destroyed by build high end resorts.
Flights
Koh Chang is a wonderful destination but not necessarily the easiest place to get to there are no airports on the island so you have to fly to the mainland first. The nearest airport is in Amphoe Muang Trat, and the Koh Change Air Taxi will take you to the island in around 50 minutes. Another option is to fly into a major city airport like Bangkok, then take taxis, buses, then a ferry to the island but his option is tedious and not for the inexperienced traveller. It is far easier to arrange the trip to Koh Chang with your tour operator at home before going. You can fly to Thailand from the major international UK airports using airlines such as Thai Airways, Emirates, Asiana Airlines and Singapore Airlines.
Climate
Koh Chang has three seasons which are divided into the hot season, cold season and rainy season. From March to May is the hot season and therefore the most popular tourist period of the year. June to October is also hot but also very rainy, and therefore is called the rainy season. November to February is the cool season; once again not that cooled compared to Europe but the weather is markedly lower that the summer. If you visit during the rainy season you will need an umbrella when it rains it will be heavy and frequent although it can offer a relief to the humidity.
What to do
Ko Chang is full of gorgeous lush greenery; there are plenty of waterfalls and lagoons to explore too. Try visiting Hat Khlong Phrao, which is a long beach with clear seas that you can swim in. Here you can fish, kayak, swim, dive and snorkel. Hat Kai Bae is also another long beach full of blue water and if fine for swimming.
Elephant trekking is very popular on Ko Chang; at the Ban Kwan Change Elephant camp, you can meet the animals, watch them in their day to day actions. Although hey are not for profit you can still make a small donation.
Thailand is famous for having some amazing spas. Throughout the island are spas that offer some luxury treaments, including Thai deep tissue massage, aromatherapy and scrubs, but to name a few.
If you love to eat Seafood then Ko Chang is great for you; try the fish and prawns and dont forget the tropical fruits, especially the durian known as one of the smelliest fruit in the world!
