Pattaya has been an extremely popular destination with tourist over the last four decades; it is a party city surrounded by the lush surroundings of Thailand. This resort has even been dubbed as ‘sin city’ but don’t let this put you off; as well as the clubs and bars, there are lots of cultural pursuits for the seasoned traveler, and child friendly things to do. Pattaya has many resorts, all inclusive and self catering. For a mixture of culture and fun then this destination may be for you.
Flights
There are no direct flights to Pattaya from the U.K. – you need to fly into Thailand first then get another flight to the island or you can take taxis and buses to the location once you get to Bangkok. The latter option can be cheaper but it takes much longer and can be confusing; it is easier if you don’t know Thailand well to book a direct flight once you are in Thailand and arrange this before going. You can fly to Thailand from most of the International airports in the U.K., and flu with Thai Airlines, Singapore Airline, Emirates, Quanta’s, SAS, Lufthansa, and more. Booking early with give you cheaper flights as will travelling during the off peaks season, generally out of the summer months. You can enter Thailand with a valid UK passport.
Climate
Pattaya enjoys a tropical climate which is both wet and dry. It has three periods, dry, wet and hot. Hot and Rainy (June to October), Warm and Dry (November to February), Hot and Humid (March to May). December to January is a very comfortable period to visit as the air is cooler but there isn’t too much rain. During the rain season, you will need an umbrella as the rainfall will be constant and heavy, however it does offer a cooling relief to the humidity. April is the hottest month where temperature reaches around 37 degrees centigrade.
What to do
For a child friendly outing, visit Pattaya Elephant village. Here you can meet the big animal that is so special to Thai people; the elephant. All sizes and ages of elephant are cared for here and the sanctuary is not for profit. You can take an elephant trek; you can see an elephant show and see how they learn their tricks.
If you want a relaxed trip, go to Hat Pattya, which is by Pattaya bay – this is a beach and a market, which attracts the tourists; you can ride a jet ski and go swimming or you can visit the souvenir stores.
For some traditional over the top, gold architecture go to Mini Siam in The Sukhumvit, east of Pattaya. This is a scaled down replica of Thailand’s ancient sights. Children will love this as much as adults.
If you are staying at a resort, there are usually numerous activities for you to indulge in, from go karting to scuba diving, to trecks to Thai boxing.
