The Da Nang Airport (airport code: DAD) is the smallest of the three international airports in Vietnam, and the services are limited. With both Qantas Airways and Thai Airways International, the route goes through Bangkok and then Ho Chi Minh City. A flight to Da Nang with Vietnam Airlines first stops in Moscow and then in Hanoi.
Da Nang Tourist Attractions
While the city of Da Nang may not have as many tourist attractions or quite the same atmosphere as Vietnam’s two other largest cities it’s still a great place to visit. Being centrally located means you can use Da Nang as a base for exploring central Vietnam, and there are a number of major sights all within a day trip’s reach of Da Nang.
In Da Nang itself there’s an assortment of things to see and do. The city is home to several beaches and there are smart beach resorts lining the coast where you could happily stay for a week or more. The beach resorts give tourists the opportunity to intersperse beach activities and fun in the sun, with cultural excursions; another reason why Da Nang is growing in popularity.
The Museum of Cham Sculpture is one of Da Nang’s top attractions. It will give visitors a good introduction to the My Son archaeological site which is around 40 miles away from Da Nang. The museum is the only one in the world dedicated to this era of the ancient Champa kingdom.
My Son is one of the region’s top tourist attractions and was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. The complex is one of the most important Hindu temple complexes in southeast Asia and includes around 20 ruined temples dating from between the 4th and 14th century.
The Marble Mountains are also popular with visitors to Da Nang. This set of outcrops is located just outside the city and features some great scenery as well as caves, tunnels and Buddhist sanctuaries, making this a great place to spend some time exploring.
Along similar lines are the Ba Na Mountains. This area was very popular in the 1920s and a mountain resort and luxurious villas and restaurants were created during that time. Today it doesn’t have the same height of popularity as it did back then but is still a great place to visit for the scenery, forest and spectacular views over the South China Sea. There’s a newly opened cable car system that takes riders higher up into the mountains for even better views!
