Hanoi Tourist Attractions

Even though there is a city in the south called Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi has several ‘attractions’ associated with the man who that city was named after, including the Mausoleum and Museum…

Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum

If you’ve ever seen the body of Lenin this will be a similar experience. The body of Ho Chi Minh is on display here and can be viewed by the public except during three months of the year when the body is apparently taken away for ‘maintenance’.

Ho Chi Minh’s Vestige

On leaving the mausoleum you’ll come directly into the grounds of the place where the man lived and worked up until his death. You’ll see two of his houses and a garage with two of his cars, plus you get to enjoy the nicely landscaped grounds.

Ho Chi Minh Museum

If you can’t get enough of Ho Chi Minh and want to find out more about his life the Museum is the perfect place to go. There’s a quite an odd and unusual assortment of exhibits on display here, but it’s said to be one of Hanoi’s best museums.

Museums in Hanoi

In addition to the HCM Museum, Hanoi does have a god selection of other interesting museums too. For a look at Vietnamese history, the National Museum of Vietnamese History spans a period of around 1,000 years up until 1945. If you’re more interested in the more modern history of Hanoi and Vietnam, you can then visit the Museum of the Vietnamese Revolution.

And visitors interested in the tools that were used by the Vietnamese in their struggles, can also visit the Army Museum and the Air Force Museum.

Wartime Sites in Hanoi

And talking of the war, there are several sites visitors might like to see associated with the wars. The Hoa Lo Prison, aka the Hanoi Hilton is a prison that was built by the French that has housed both Vietnamese and Americans.

Hanoi Parks

In addition to all the buildings Hanoi has some very beautiful open spaces and parks which are great for spending a little time away from the crowds in. Hoan Kiem Lake is one of these parks that’s situated in the centre of the city and focuses around the pretty lake. Near the lake is the Old Quarter where you’ll see the old architecture and streets of Hanoi.

When Should You Visit Hanoi?

Hanoi is a good city to visit throughout the year as it experiences quite mild temperatures during the winter and hot temperatures in the summer. Summers are humid though and this is when the majority of Hanoi’s rain falls, perhaps not to everybodys liking! A visit during the winter though will have little rain.
