Flights to Vietnam

There are three international airports in Vietnam, situated in the country’s largest and most important cities: Hanoi (airport code: HAN), Ho Chi Minh City (airport code: SGN) and Da Nang (airport code: DAD). Flights to Vietnam from the UK are available via indirect routes with one or two stops. Travellers can choose to fly airlines such as Malaysia Airlines, Vietnam Airlines, Thai Airways International, Korean Air, Asiana Airlines, and Qantas Airways to fly to Vietnam from the UK via one connection.

Vietnam Tourist Attractions

Vietnam struggled for some time to shake its war-torn image following the Vietnam War but this is now thoroughly behind them and the country is now as safe as any other destination in this part of the world. Tourism is on the up, and visitors will be treated to some great sights if making the flight to Vietnam.

Hanoi

Vietnam’s capital city, Hanoi, is situated in the north of the country. The city has plenty of great architecture that’s been left over from its colonial days – French and Chinese are particularly well featured. Unsurprisingly the city has numerous wartime sites, but it has lots of beauty too – pleasant parks such as Hoan Kiem Lake, and a variety of museums that will educate visitors on the history of the country, including the Natural Museum of Vietnamese History, and the Museum of Vietnamese Revolution.

Ha Long Bay

If you’re staying in Hanoi make sure you take a day trip to Ha Long Bay, one of Vietnam’s most popular tourist attractions. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and features picture postcard limestone rock formations that are simply beautiful against the waters of the bay. You can arrange for a day trip from Hanoi, but to make the most of Ha Long Bay you might want to stay several nights.

Cuc Phuong National Park

Vietnam has an impressive total of thirty national parks, representative of the country’s great scenic beauty, but one of the largest and most important is Cuc Phuong, and it’s accessible for a day trip from Hanoi. Cuc Phuong was Vietnam’s first national park and features the country’s largest nature reserve. It’s home to a very diverse range of flora and fauna, including a number of endangered species.

Hi Chi Minh City

Formerly known as Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city in Vietnam and is situated in the south of the country. The city featured heavily in Vietnam’s wars so there are a variety of war-based attractions here – Reunification Palace is a top attraction as this is where the Vietnam War ended. This building provides a look into the past as it has been untouched since 1975.

Hue

The city of Hue, in the central coastal region, was once the Imperial capital of Vietnam and now has several interesting attractions – the Demilitarized Zone and the Vinh Moc Tunnels are war associated attractions, but there’s also the Imperial Citadel, and the Tombs of the Emperors.

When Should You Visit Vietnam?

Vietnam has three different climatic zones so the time of year you should visit can vary from one to the other. The south has a rainy season from June to November and is cooler from December to February. The north has hot and dry summers, and warm springs and autumns, whilst the central region is a combination of both!
