Exmouth Gulf Tourist Attractions
Ningaloo Marine Park
The Ningaloo reef is 162 miles (260km) long, and you can explore much of its beauty in the Ningaloo Marine Park, just outside of Exmouth. There is more to do than can be listed here, but activities include snorkelling, swimming, surfing, sailing and whale watching. At certain times of the year, you can see migrating whale sharks, humpback whales or sea turtles. The reef is home to corals, tropical fish, and eels, and there are literally hundreds of species to see.
There are also a number of sandy beaches if you just want to stretch out in the sun and relax after a hard day of hiking. The waters are particularly calm in Exmouth Gulf, making for fine swimming any time.
Cape Range National Park
For land exploration, you'll want to see the Cape Range National Park, directly opposite the Ningaloo reef. The landscape is arid and rugged, and there are many interesting formations to see. The Yardie Creek Gorge and the Vlaming Head Lighthouse are two popular spots in the park. With all the outcroppings of limestone, there are more than 700 caves in the area, and likely more yet to find. Wildlife native to the area include the kangaroo, rock wallaby, emu and more than 100 kinds of birds.
In either park, you can arrange for guided tours or just go out exploring on your own. Both parks do have water and land areas, so there are boat and jeep tours available in either area so you can see as much of the park as possible during your trip. Tours of all sorts are easy to arrange in Exmouth.
