Australia is a large country that occupies the entire continent of Australasia. It is in the southern hemisphere, characterised the mainland and other islands such as Tasmania. Australia is extremely popular with UK tourists, because the people speak English and generally eat westernised food. Australia has many national symbols, the Kangaroo and the Koala. The culture is similar to that in the UK and there is the benefit of warm weather and lots of beaches. There are lots of flights to Australia from the major UK airports although flights are never very cheap because the country is a long journey. Because of the length of the flight, quite often there will be a quick stopover for refuelling. There are no problems entering Australia with a valid UK passport although their customs are known for being strict and you need to be careful not to take any food or flora with you or it will be confiscated.

Climate

Australia is a large country and the climate varies. Much of the central area of Australia is desert – infact 40% of the land s covered by sand dunes. It is the coasts that have cooler climates although they are still warm – the summers are hot reaching 30 degrees Celsius and the winters are mild In Sydney, the temperature can reach forth degrees Celsius so remember that sun cream; Australians are known to be great believers in sun protection due to the amount of sunshine they have.

What to do

Australia is a large country so you can visit other locations depending on where you want to go. Visit South Australia where there is lots of lush greenery and beaches. Adelaide is a major city, and nearly is Kangaroo Island where you can meet kangaroos, and swim with dolphins and see the sea lions.

Victoria is another major city in Australia; where you can meet the famous winemakers and visit Yarra Valley where many of the grapes are grown. In Queensland are the cities of Brisbane and the Gold Coast, made up of the famous Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea, where you can relax and go swimming or sunbathe on the beach.

The Northern territory has many natural wonders such as the National Parks Kakadu and Uluru-Kata Tjuta where you can see kangaroos, crocodiles, wallabies and unusual fauna. The town of Alice Springs is also nearby. Finally the West of Australia where Perth resides has many ancient land forms and is a great place to get acquainted with aboriginal culture.
