Flights to Kalbarri
There are a few 2-stop flights to Kalbarri Airport (airport code: KAX) when coming from London but they are extremely expensive and flights to Kalbarri take nearly 60 hours. A more convenient route would be a flight to Perth, and then take the Transwa bus to Kalbarri. It runs 3 times a week and takes about 7 hours. You can get a flight to the Perth Airport (code: PER) with Qantas Airways or British Airways with one connection in Singapore. Singapore Airlines also goes the same route. These flights will be just under 20 hours in total.
Kalbarri Tourist Attractions
Kalbarri National Park
Right outside of town is the large Kalbarri National Park, which is the main draw for the area. The park has many marked trails for a casual walk or a serious hike. Landscapes will vary from the high coastal cliffs to the rocky scrubland within the park. The Murchison River Gorge is within Kalbarri National Park, and an amazing sight in itself.
Murchison River Gorge
When you are in the park, the Z-Bend and Loop trails will take you to the gorge and offer the best views for visitors. With a tour group, you can go rafting or canoeing down several parts of the river for another view of the landscape.
Geraldton
Not far from Kalbarri is the larger city of Geraldton, where you can find more choices for shopping, restaurants and other attractions. It's about 78 miles (125km) away on a main road, making it ideal for a day-trip while in Kalbarri. There are several excellent museums and art galleries, and the St. Francis Xavier Cathedral is popular spot as well if you are interested in a little history. Take a boat out to the Abrolhos Islands if you want to see some impressive marine life.
Murchison House Station
You can take a short drive outside of Kalbarri and see a working cattle station, as well as take a look at some history from the region. Views of the outback are spectacular, and the station itself has many buildings over 100 years old. Their Tag-a-long tours will take you farther onto the property by jeep.
Rainbow Jungle
The large open aviary is a hit with visitors to the Rainbow Jungle parrot centre. You can walk around with macaws and Cockatoos flying freely, and there are many other kinds of birds at the centre. They have a huge flock of the lovely little Purple Crown Lorikeets as well.
