Located in the colourful Caribbean, the island nation of Jamaica sits about 90 miles south of Cuba and offers the archetypal Caribbean holiday destination – turquoise blue waters and soft , white sand, wonderful weather, and great food and culture!
Flights to Jamaica
Jamaica has two international airports; the Norman Manley International Airport (airport code: KIN) in the capital, Kingston, and the Donald Sangster International Airport (airport code: MBJ) in Montego Bay.

Which airport you choose to fly to will depend on your final destination, however bear in mind that the Sangster International Airport does receive flights from a greater number of airlines and hence the choice will be better. Airlines flying to Sangster International Airport include Continental Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, Delta Air Lines, British Airways, and Air Canada, plus charters Thomson Airways and Thomas Cook Airlines. Jamaica Tourist Attractions
This former British Crown Colony has long been a popular Caribbean destination, and with the price of flights and package holidays going down it’s now even more accessible. Many visitors come to Jamaica as part of a package, and often all inclusive deals are offered. These are great if you want to come to Jamaica and soak up the sun, while being waited on, and enjoying sheer relaxation! Resorts are self-contained so that you don’t need to head beyond the boundaries, although it’s nice to be able to see more of Jamaica than just your local beach. Many hotels will offer tours and day trips to places like the capital, Kingston, or the Blue Mountains.
Kingston
Kingston is both the capital and the largest city of Jamaica. It’s a vibrant place and has several different attractions that are worth checking out – the Institute of Jamaica gives visitors the history of this nation so this is often a good place to start, followed by a visit to the Port Royale area of the city. This is where many pirates used to gather during the 17th century! The Hope Botanical Gardens is another attraction and these are in fact the largest botanical gardens in the Caribbean. Pop next door and also visit the Hope Zoo. The Bob Marley Museum is also popular.
Montego Bay
Montego Bay is the most famous resort area in Jamaica and many of the island’s hotels and resorts are situated here. If you’re not staying in the Montego Bay area there’s not an awful lot to attract you to this part of the island as the resorts are generally closed to non-guests.
The Blue Mountains
Jamaica may be most famous for its beaches and turquoise waters but there’s more to this island than the coast! Inland are the beautiful Blue Mountains, famous for Blue Mountain Coffee! If you want to spend a day away from the coast take a hike up Peak Trail which takes you right up to the peak of the mountains. If the top is not shrouded in mist, as it often is, you’ll get some very spectacular views.
When Should You Visit Jamaica?
Jamaica has hot weather throughout the year, remaining at an average high of around 30C across all seasons. Winter and spring are the most popular times to visit because from summer to autumn is hurricane season. If you plan on hiking up the Blue Mountains the temperatures will be comfortably cooler up there and less humid than the coast!
