Ayia Napa is a bit of a party town, with lots of nightlife and popular beaches for entertainment. But it can be a good place to visit for families as well, with historical and cultural attractions besides the beaches. Ayia Napa is located on the eastern coast of Cyprus, in the Mediterranean.
Flights to Ayia Napa
Just over 25 miles (40km) outside of town, the Larnaca International Airport (airport code: LCA) serves the resort town of Ayia Napa. There are taxis, rental cars and public transport to get you between the city and the airport. There are non-stop flights to Ayia Napa with either Cyprus Airways or British Airways, with both flights being under 5 hours long. There are also several 1-stop options, like a flight to Ayia Napa with LOT Polish Airlines that connects in Warsaw. Czech Airlines also has a flight to Ayia Napa but makes a transfer in Prague instead. There are also options with low cost carriers, Easyjet and Jet2.com, as well as charter airlines Monarch Airlines, Thomas Cook Airlines, and Thomson Airways, offering direct flights to Ayia Napa from the UK.

The Beaches
There are many beautiful sandy beaches along the coast of Ayia Napa, including Nissi Beach, Makronisos Beach, Harbor Beach, and Lanta Beach. Nissi Beach is particularly trendy and can be a little loud for anyone travelling with a family. Harbour Beach is less crowded and more family-friendly. All the beaches have stretches of sand for sunbathing and also offer a range of water sports if you want to get out in the ocean.
Nightlife
Many people come to Ayia Napa for the party atmosphere and the nightlife, and there are parts of the city filled with bars and dance clubs. You’ll find the most active party spots in The Square, right in the middle of downtown Ayia Napa. Most places don’t open until midnight, and then stay open until daybreak.
Thalassa Municipal Museum of the Sea
Thalassa Municipal Museum of the Sea is a museum that showcases the marine history of the Cyprus region, including modern history and ancient artefacts from 7000 BC. The main exhibit is a replica of the 4th century shipwreck of the Kyrenia II that was discovered in 1963. There are also galleries with artwork from modern-day Cypriots. The museum is closed on Sundays during the winter, and there is an admission charge to enter.
Ayia Napa Monastery
The Monastery was built in the 16th century, and is a beautiful site of well-preserved ruins today. There is a courtyard, fountain and bell tower still intact and this is a very popular place for photographs.
Waterworld Waterpark
Waterworld is one of the largest water parks in Europe, with 18 major water attractions ranging from wave pools to high-speed slides. There are a number of places to eat and drink while you are there, and it’s a fun place to spend an entire day.
Cape Greco
Not far from Ayia Napa is Cape Greco, where you can see some amazing cliffs, and old lighthouse ruins. It's a national park, and there are many walking trails for a relaxing afternoon of bird watching.
When Should You Visit Ayia Napa?
Summers are quite warm in Ayia Napa, with the warmest months being July and August. Those months have daily highs of 31C (88F). The winters are mild but would be a little cool for beaches or water sports. Late spring and early autumn are the best times to visit without being overly hot.
