Flights to Denmark

Denmark has several airports though the largest and main hub for the country and the rest of Scandinavia is at Copenhagen. Flights from the UK arrive at Copenhagen International Airport (airport code: CPH) on a good variety of airlines, both with direct and indirect routes. Direct flights to Denmark are available through Danish airline Cimber Sterling, as well as British Airways, SAS, United Airlines, and Qantas Airways. Low cost carrier easyJet also offers direct flights to Denmark from the UK. Other airlines such as KLM, Air France, Air Berlin, and Lufthansa all offer one stop flights to Denmark from the UK.

Denmark Tourist Attractions

Copenhagen

Copenhagen is Denmark’s capital and largest city and makes a fun and interesting destination whether you’re coming here for a short break or a longer holiday. Situated on the island of Zealand, on the east side, you can easily get to Sweden from here as the island is connected via one of the word’s most impressive bridges. Several bridges also connect Zealand to the mainland of Denmark too.

The historical centre of Copenhagen is very popular with tourists as its features old and picturesque houses and buildings, quaint streets and a good many museums. Some of the city’s top museums include the Museum of Copenhagen, and Ny Carlsberg Glypotek, and the popular Carlsberg brewery tour!

Billund

On the Danish mainland, Jutland, is the town of Billund. Billund probably won’t appeal unless you’re a fan of Lego or have children, as this is the home of the Lego manufacturer and Legoland. Lego lovers will be in their element here, but Billund doesn’t have an awful lot more to offer the tourist other than this.

Odense

Odense is an attractive city and the largest on the island of Funen. The city is well known as being the birthplace of writer Hans Christian Anderson and you’ll find a museum and garden here dedicated to him.

Ribe

Several ‘Viking’ oriented attractions exist in the town of Ribe, the oldest town in Denmark. Experience Ribe in Viking times at the popular and fun Ribe Viking Centre, explore the ruins of Ribe Castle, and enjoy the views over the city from the tower of Ribe Cathedral.

Elsinore

Another historic town is Elsinore with its top attraction, the Kronborg Castle. This impressive castle is actually listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was used as the setting for Shakespeare’s Hamlet. Inside the castle you can visit the museum dedicated to Shakespeare.

Bornholm

Away from the all the towns and cities of Denmark the country has some very beautiful scenery to enjoy too. Visitors looking for a summer holiday destination with a difference could consider a visit to the island of Bornholm, known as the ‘pearl of the Baltic’. The beautiful coastlines, sandy beaches, forests and other scenery make this a popular destination with the Danes at least.

When Should You Visit Denmark?

Denmark experiences four distinct seasons, so when you visit depends on what kind of weather you enjoy! The summers are mild to warm with an average temperature of 20C (68F) in July, and lots of daylight to make the most of. The 21st June is the longest day with 18 hours of daylight. Spring and autumn are usually mild, and while winters are cool they never usually get bitterly cold in Denmark.
