France is a very popular destination with UK tourists, because it is so close. The country attracts over 79 million tourists per year and Paris, the capital is a well known and visited city. In fact, Paris is known as the romantic capital of world. There is only one hour time difference between Paris and the UK meaning that it’s easy to adapt and that you can make the most of your stay whether it’s for two weeks or two days.

Flights

Flying to Paris is easy and affordable because so many airlines offer this poplar destination throughout the year. Big budget airlines like Easyjet, Bmibaby and Flybe offer regular flights from the UK. Because it is such a popular destination, you can afford to shop around and get the best prices. Don’t forget, you can mix and match tickets if you are booking your flights online – for example choosing to take the outward journey with Easyjet but returning by Bmibaby. Other airlines like Airfrance and British Airways also offer flights although these are generally a little more costly. You can fly to Paris from nearly all of the International Airports in the UK and flights are very regular. With a UK passport, you will no have problems entering the country for a holiday.

Climate

The climate in Paris is normal moderate and not dissimilar to the UK. It is the city with the lowest rainfall in France although showers can occur at any time. Like the UK there can be some heat waves and they also have very cold winters. Obviously, if you are visiting during the summer months it can be hot, with the temperature being in the mid 30s especially in July and August, whereas November and December can be very cold and the temperature can drop below zero. Remember to dress accordingly!

What to do

Paris is full of architecture and perfect for sightseeing and some high end shopping. There are lots of landmarks to visit – for example the Eiffel Tower. Don’t forget the Arc de Triomphe which is nearby and the Champs-Elysees, which is a long, glorious concourse. There is the Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Bastille to visit.

If you like art then this is also the dream city. Musee de Louvre, shaped like a glass pyramid, has been made famous in many films (such as The Da Vinci Code) and is one of the biggest buildings in Paris. Here you will see many famous paintings including the Mona Lisa.

When it comes to shopping, Paris is the home of many couture houses, Dior, Chanel and Louis Vuitton. You can also look at the fragrance boutiques since the French are known as some of the world’s finest perfumers.

If you like food, then France is also filled with lots of eateries and cafes, where you can get good cheese, meat and bread. You can even try national dishes like snails and frogs’ legs! French chocolate is luxurious and is great to take home as a gift for your friends and family.
