Stuttgart is the sixth biggest city in Germany. Like other German cities, Stuttgart is historically rich and is full of friendly people and has lots of things to see and do. Flights

Flying to Stuttgart from the UK is not a problem although the destination is not always directly available through the budget airlines like Easyjet. Instead look at airlines like German wings, Flybe and British Airways for direct flights. Be aware that flying direct to Stuttgart is a little more limited than with other airlines so prices are a little higher than flying to somewhere like Berlin. As always look in advance for the best prices. The local airport is the Stuttgart International Airport. It takes domestic and international flights including German Wings and you can enter the country for a holiday without any restrictions as long as you have a valid UK passport.

Climate

Stuttgart has a pleasant climate with mild winters, medium rainfall and warm summers. During the hottest months he weather can reach 34c. At night the temperature tends to drop so even if you are visiting in August you need to consider taking a cardigan or jumper to keep warm at night. During the winter months, the weather is fairly mild but nevertheless it can drop to -9c. It can also be humid at times but it never rises above 80%.

What to do

The city of Stuttgart has some interesting pieces or art and culture for those who love to sightsee. The Staatsgalerie is a very famous gallery which has a collection of art from people like Rembrandt, Ruben, Monet, Cezanne and Renoir. There is also the Carl Zeiss Planetarium – Carl Zeiss made legendary high quality lenses so its not surprise to find that the Planetarium has some spectacular views.

For children there is the Wilhelma zoo and botanical garden. There are lots of flowers and animals such as monkeys and polar bears to visit which are always popular with children.

As Stuttgart has strong automotive ties, there is the Mercedes-Benz museum that is housed in a beautiful building and will take you through the history of the car. There are special models on show too, such as one offs and custom made Mercedes-Benz.

If you like views, then visit the Television tower where you can travel to the top and see the surrounding areas. This tower was the first of its kind and is still used for transmitting radio and television and if you are up there on a clear day you can see the vineyards and forests in the distance. There is also a restaurant on the top of the tower but make a reservation beforehand.

Stuttgart is known for its mineral springs so if you can, visit the Mineralbad Cannstatt which has a classic spar. Minerlabad Leuze has a casual family feel so you can take your children – there’s a hot steam room, multiple pools and a solarium.
