Milan is a country that is known as one of the fashion capitols of the world. The residents are indeed stylish and sophisticated people. At the same time it is a financial capital, an arts centre and a favourite for the tourists. Milan is another Italian city that s full of beautiful architecture and impressive museums. The Milanese also love football, looking after Intermilan and AC Milan – the Stadio San Siro is a world famous football stadium.

Flights

Milan is a very popular climate so there are many flights to the city. Prices are affordable too, but it can be busy near peak season during the summer. Accommodation will be booked up so do make sure you can book early and in advance. Some of the airlines that will fly to Milan include Aer Lungus, Flybe, KLM, Jet2, Ryanair, Easyjet, BMI. Most of the major airport destinations in the UK will be covered so you should b able to fly from a location closest to you. There are three airports in Milan, the Milan Malpensa Intercontinental Airport 28 miles from Milan, Milan Linate International Airport, 4 miles from Milan.

Climate

Milan has a hot summer where July and August has searing temperatures, reaching 30 degrees centigrade and beyond. During the winter, especially October and November there is rain and it can get quite cold. The peak season is the summer, July and August especially when it is warm. August is a holiday month for most people in Milan so be aware there may be some places that are shut during this period. Off season is spring, where the climate is mild and also autumn where it is colder and there may be a spot of rain. However, there are fewer crowds and this is a great time to visit beauty spots like Lake Como, which are congested during the summer.

What to do

Milan is a vibrant and cosmopolitan city that is chic and modern. At the same time there is wonderful ancient architecture around you to see.

For those who love to shop, Milan is full of designer boutiques. If this is out of your price range, then consider the Milan markets. Visit the Mercantone dell’Antiquario del Naviglio grand which has an antique market and over 400 stalls. There is also the Mercato de Vivale Papiniano which has lots of fashion items at low prices, known for its bags and shoes.

La Scala is a famous opera house; here you can go to watch the ballet, the opera. There is also the Maria dell grazie, which is a gothic church. It also houses Leonardo DaVinci’s masterpiece, The Last Supper.

If you cannot make it to Lake Como, then visit Lago d’Orto –this is also a lake but it’s less busy and is known as one of the most romantic lakes in Italy. You can relax here, have a picnic or just go for a walk. The town called San Guilio is nearby and has the charm of an old village.
