Bucharest is Romania’s capital and largest city. It’s situated in the south east of Romania on the River Dambovita, and between the two World Wars was given the nickname of Little Paris of the East. Today it offers an unusual mix of architecture as plenty has been destroyed through wars and natural disasters.

Palace of the Parliament
This is by far Bucharest’s biggest and best known landmark because it’s said to be the second largest building in the world (after the Pentagon). There are 12 stories and 3100 different rooms within Bucharest’s parliament building and because there are guided tours given regularly throughout the day this is one of the city’s top tourist attractions.
One of Bucharest’s museums, the National Museum of Contemporary Art is located within the new glass wing of the Palace of the Parliament.

This isn’t the only museum though as Bucharest has many others to investigate too. The National Museum of Art of Romania features more classical art with works dating back to medieval times. This museum is located within the former royal palace of Bucharest.

The Village Museum is an outdoor museum that ha about 300 traditional buildings, while the Museum of the Romanian Peasant is an indoor cultural museum. The National Museum of Romanian History is also in Bucharest and it offers a general look at the history of the country.
