Climate
Barcelona has a Mediterranean climate which means that is it warm and dry in the summer, but the winters can also be humid, if not milder. There is a tendency for storms during August, and rain can occur throughout the warm mints of August and September. October and November however, are the wettest months of the year. London and Barcelona actually have the same amount of rainfall per year but it is more regular and less torrential in the UK. December through to February is the coldest months where the temperature will average around 10 degrees centigrade. July and August are the hottest months and the temperature is usually around 25 degrees centigrade. The summer seasons are therefore the most popular months with tourists so be aware of this when visiting.
What to do
You cannot visit Barcelona and not see the stunning architecture of Antonio Gaudi. Gaudi created impressive buildings and sculptures throughout the city – there is for example the Sagrada Familia, a huge unfinished temple that you can climb to the top of. Then there is Parc Guell, which is a park scattered full of his elaborate buildings and sculptures. There is also the Casa Batllo and La Padrera; all of Gaudi’s creations. Be aware that some of his works are free to visit and can get busy (like Parc Guell) but others may incur a small charge.
Barcelona also has a modern art museum, the MACBA, where there are lots of works displayed by Picasso and Dali. The Caixa Forum has different exhibitions every month to keep things varied. There is the Salvador Dali Museum in Girona, which you can visit if you want to take a short day excursion. The museum is placed in Girona which in itself is worth a visit; a medieval style old town.
Finally don’t forget the beaches! Barcelona has seven beaches, so there are plenty to choose from. Some of the city beaches worth visiting are Saint Sebastian and Barceloneta. Both are long so you shouldn’t be swamped with too many tourists.
