Destinations in Sweden
Gothenburg is the second biggest city in Sweden. It is one of the largest University cities in Scandinavia, and is known for its diversity. Despite only having around 500,000 inhabitants, it boasts a large collection of museums, art galleries and high end restaurants for those who like the finer things in life. Ryanair have started to fly to the city making it more accessible to UK tourists who want to fly to the city and see its beauty for themselves.
Flights
You can fly to Gothenburg from a number of international airports in the UK including Gatwick, Manchester and Heathrow. You can fly with Finnair, Lufthansa, Ryan Air, BMI Flights, British Airways and Sterling. Prices are moderate; although you can catch some bargains especially with Ryanair, the flights generally are not hugely cheap, because it is not a common destination. The peak season is from May to September and because Sweden tends to be quite an expensive place to visit, it is worth booking your hotel in advance. You can enter the country with a valid UK passport with no restrictions.
Climate
Gothenburg is known to have what is called a maritime climate; in other words it is neither hot nor cold. The weather then is always moderate and pleasant for visitors. It is advised to take warm clothing and an umbrella during your visit since like the UK, the weather can be unpredictable. Peak visiting times are still in the summer where the weather is warmer than in the winter however, the chill in the air which runs from November to January only adds to the atmosphere of the city.
What to do
As well as just wondering around and enjoying the sights, make sure you visit some one the gorgeous museums and botanical gardens.

If you like to shop, visit the Kungsportsavenyn – this is a big street in Gothenburg which has lots of places to eat and drink and shop. It stretches down the old city, by the water. The shops and restaurants cater for a variety of budgets so you will be able to find food and souvenirs that suit your price tag. There is also the Museum of Art nearby and some other similar sites in the same spot.
If you have children, then visit the Liseberg, which you can get to on a Vintage Tram. In Liseberg, there are lot of music concerts going on which appeal to all ages but also circus acts and puppetry which is a hit with children. There are also seasonal attractions, and near Christmas there are over 3 million lights that go up in the park.
