Hyderabad Tourist Attractions
Sri Venkateswara Temple
Also known as the Birla Mandir, this temple is constructed completely out of white marble and is a beautiful sight. It was built on a hill, giving a nice view of the surrounding city while you are there. Inside, there are several separate shrines, statuary and carvings. It is a Hindu temple but anyone may enter and visit the complex. There are a number of other Hindu temples throughout Hyderabad, including the Balaji Temple, the Mahankali Temple and the Sanghi Temple.
Golkonda Fort
The ruins at Golkonda consist of more than just the fort. The city was built in the 13th century. The site has walls, fortifications, a citadel, mosques and many other buildings and chambers. Golkonda is about 7 miles (11km) outside of Hyderabad, and is located high on a hill from where you can see back to the city.
Ramoji Film City
A much more modern attraction of Hyderabad is Ramoji Film City; a movie-themed amusement park for the whole family. There are film studio tours, thrill rides, playgrounds, live entertainment and even a zoo. There is even an area dedicated to the Wild West theme of American movies. You can see much of the park in comfort on one of the vintage tour bus rides, and the food courts offer several places to eat.
Salar Jung Museum
The museum was named after the Salar Jung family, whose collection of artefacts and antiquities are on display, and it's the third largest museum in all of India. The items in the exhibits range from every kind of artwork such as paintings, sculpture, textiles and carvings. A great deal of material is Indian, but there are galleries of art from around the world as well. In total, there are nearly 40 separate galleries.
Jalavihar Water Park
Hyderabad’s Jalavihar Water Park has several large water slides, swimming pools and other attractions for kids as well as adults. It's a great place to have some fun while also cooling off in the heat. The park is handy to get to, right in the heart of the city on the shores of Hussain Sagar Lake.
When Should You Visit Hyderabad?
The weather in Hyderabad is generally hot and dry, though some months are more comfortable than others. You should probably avoid April through July as it will reach close to 40C (104F) during the day. For more reasonable temperatures, try to plan your visit in December and January. Then it will be around 25C (77F) and much better for walking around even though it is still quite warm.
