Udaipur City Palace Complex
The City Palace of Udaipur is not just one palace but a whole complex of them, built at different times from 1559 onwards. Situated on a hilltop, one of the major appeals of the palace complex are the fabulous views that visitors can enjoy, including out to the Lake Palace and Monsoon Palace, plus over the city of Udaipur itself.
Because the complex consists of a number of palaces you’re really in for a treat in terms of architecture. There are a number of different architectural styles across the palaces so you’ll never get bored of seeing the same thing over and over. These include Rajasthani, Mughal, European, Chinese, and Medieval.
Lake Palace
While visiting Udaipur the ultimate experience would be to stay at the Lake Palace Hotel. It was voted the most romantic hotel in India, and is one of the most luxurious hotels in the country. Formerly built as the royal summer palace between 1743 and 1746, the hotel is built of white marble and completely covers the four acres of the rock island on which it sits. The Lake Palace Hotel rose to fame around the world after featuring heavily in the James Bond movie Octopussy.

Gulab Bagh and Zoo
Udaipur also features some lovely gardens and Gulab Bagh is one of those. This is actually the largest garden in the city, covering over 100 acres on the east side of Lake Pichola. The garden is named after the many rose flowers it has, and as well as the rose gardens there are several other attractions here; the Victoria Hall Museum is one, plus there is a small zoo and for children a train that winds its way around the gardens.
When Should You Visit Udaipur?
It’s best to avoid the monsoon season when planning a visit to Udaipur, plus the high heat of summer counts out this season for some visitors too. Monsoons start in July and last a couple of months, leading into autumn. Autumn is a popular time to come, as is the winter, because temperatures are still very warm. January is the coolest month, but the average high is a hot 28C!
