Situated in the Indian Ocean, about 900 miles to the east of Africa is the island nation of the Seychelles. This beautiful destination consists of 115 different islands and includes many picture perfect beaches as well as culture, towns and other attractions.

Flights to the Seychelles

The only international airport in the Seychelles island chain is the Seychelles International Airport (airport code: SEZ), near the capital city of Victoria on Mahe Island. Smaller airports can be found on many other Seychelles islands, but they are only used for short trips between the islands. Most flights to the Seychelles islands from the UK are 1-stop flights. Air France will stop in Paris, while Qatar Airways makes a connection in Doha. A route with 2 transfers is available with Air Seychelles, stopping in Amsterdam and then Paris before traveling on to the Seychelles islands.

Seychelles Tourist Attractions

As Mahe Island is home to the country’s only international airport this is where most visitors will start their holidays in the Seychelles. Mahe Island has plenty to offer but if you want to see some of the other 114 islands in the Seychelles you can make use of the national airline, Air Seychelles, and get flights to some of the other larger islands, such as Praslin. Flights depart daily to here or less frequently to others.

Victoria

Situated on Mahe island is the capital of the Seychelles, Victoria. Although this is the largest city in the Seychelles it’s actually one of the smallest capital cities in the world and is a lovely place to spend some time in. The colonial architecture and quaint feel is the main appeal, setting this small city apart from all the huge capital cities in the world.

The city’s clock tower is probably the most famous attraction, plus there’s an assortment of architecture to admire if you simply take time to stroll around. Specific attractions include the Natural History Museum and the National Museum of History, plus the market is a great place to buy fresh produce and to mingle with the locals.

Seychelles Beach Holidays

Most visitors to the Seychelles come here for an unforgettable beach holiday, and the Seychelles does not disappoint! With over 100 islands there are hundreds of different beaches waiting for you to try them out, and far from being crowded there are many that sit nearly empty allowing you to find your own private spot. Though all of the beaches are very beautiful Anse Lazio beach, on Praslin island, is reputedly one of the best and most popular.

When you’ve enjoyed soaking up the sun, the Seychelles also has many different water sports on offer. Diving and snorkelling in Ste Anne Marine National Park is a highlight, while Aldabra Atoll is also a great spot for this. Opportunities for windsurfing, boating, fishing, yachting, surfing and power boating are also abundant in the Seychelles.

Vallee de Mai

On dry land the Vallee de Mai Nature Reserve is another popular place to visit. This is on Praslin island and has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site because it is one of only two places in the world where the Coco de Mer grows. As well as this plant you’ll enjoy waterfalls, birds and animals.

When Should You Visit the Seychelles?

There’s a warm climate throughout the year in the Seychelles thanks to its equatorial climate. The average annual temperature is a hot 29C (84F) and the sea remains a lovely warm 27C (81F), perfect for swimming and water sports. November to March is the wetter time of the year so may be best avoided.
