Flights to Praslin Island
Places in Seychelles
Situated in the Seychelles, in the Indian Ocean, Praslin is the second largest island of the Seychelles’ 115 islands, and is located just under 30 miles north east of the largest island, Mahe. As with the rest of the Seychelles, Praslin Island is primarily a sun and sand destination.
Flights to Praslin Island
The Praslin Island Airport (airport code: PRI) is only small and used just by Air Seychelles to connect with the main island (Mahe) and other islands in the Seychelles, so you can’t get a direct flight to Praslin Island from the UK. International flights will therefore arrive on Mahe Island, at the Seychelles International Airport (airport code: SEZ). The airport is near the capital city of Victoria so is good for visiting Mahe, or connect onto the local airline, Air Seychelles, for regular flights to Praslin from Mahe. Helicopter shuttles are also available with Helicopter Seychelles. Most flights to Praslin Island from London have 1 connection. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic transfer in Nairobi, and British Midland stops once in Doha. Qatar Airways also connects in Doha.
Praslin Island Tourist Attractions
Praslin Island is a beautiful paradise where visitors come to relax and unwind, enjoying the great weather, scenery, amazing beaches and crystal clear waters. Combine these factors with its wonderful plant, animal and bird life and Praslin really is a Garden of Eden. In fact, a General Charles Gordon of Khartoum reputedly believed in the 1800’s that what is now the Vallee de Mai Nature Reserve on Praslin ‘was’ actually the biblical Garden of Eden.
Praslin has an established tourism industry but it’s not as well developed or busy as Mahe (the main island of the Seychelles). For many visitors this is an extra incentive to visit Praslin as it’s quieter. The beaches here are stunning and really are quite quiet. There are several resorts and hotels to stay in, situated on several beaches, but the beach said to be the best is Anse Lazio. Here you can enjoy peaceful and safe swimming as the waters just off the beach are surrounded by a coral reef. This makes the waters calmer for swimming and snorkelling, and of course gives the opportunity to snorkel up to the reef itself.
Vallee de Mai Nature Reserve
Enjoying the beaches and the weather and the main appeal for most visitors to Praslin, but when you have the urge to do something different you can visit the island’s top tourist attraction, Vallee de Mai Nature Reserve.
Since 1983 the nature reserve has also been a UNESCO World Heritage Site in recognition of its natural importance. It features a palm forest that consists of the endemic Coco de Mer which produces the largest seeds of any plant in the world, and huge leaves. The reserve is also famous for its wildlife, including the rare Seychelles Black Parrot.
When Should You Visit Praslin?
Praslin has an equatorial climate so the temperature varies very little across the year. By a small margin, December to April are the hottest months, and July and August the coolest. Rainfall is quite high through the year, and from May to November the southeast trade winds add a gentle wind, making this the most pleasant time to visit for many.
