Flights to Dammam
Places in Saudi Arabia
Also called Ad Dammam, this city is the capital of the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, and it’s situated on the Persian Gulf. This is the richest old region in the world and it’s full of luxury hotels, modern skyscrapers, and a vibrant nightlife.
Flights to Dammam
It may be in a remote desert location and surrounded by sand dunes, but Dammam's King Fahd International Airport (airport code: DMM) is actually the largest airport in the world (in terms of land size). There are shuttles and taxis to take you the 30 or so miles from the airport to the city. You can get a direct flight to Dammam from the UK with British Midland, or with a handful of other airlines that offer 1-stop flights to Dammam. Egyptair transfers in Cairo, and Etihad makes a connection in Abu Dhabi. For a European transfer, take KLM’s flight to Dammam and travel through Amsterdam.
Dammam Tourist Attractions
Dammam is the third largest city in Saudi Arabia, behind Riyadh and Jeddah, and it’s the largest one in the Eastern Province. The city port is the largest on the Persian Gulf, yet Dammam also features very scenic beaches on the Dammam Corniche. Despite the usual fairly strict rules associated with Middle Eastern cities, Dammam is quite Western in many ways – a vibrant nightlife, beaches and watersports, resorts, amusement parks, and lots of shopping, are just some of the things you can enjoy here.
Dammam Corniche
The Corniche is one of the city’s top tourist attractions. It’s a large area of land, spanning across several beautiful beaches and incorporating numerous private clubs, but also many public attractions. From the beaches you can enjoy a variety of water sports, while inland many other sports are available too. The Corniche is much like a mixed use leisure and recreation district, also offering many modern art installations.
Half Moon Bay
In addition to the popular Corniche, Dammam offers Half Moon Bay as another beautiful beach. Diving from this area is popular and there are several artificial reefs to dive on.
Museums in Dammam
Dammam is also a culturally rich city with several good museums to visit. Amongst these is the Heritage Centre Dammam where you can find out about life in Saudi Arabia. Along similar lines is the Regional Museum of Archaeology and Ethnography.
The Dammam National Museum is the better known though. This museum again focuses on the country’s history and culture.
Shopping in Dammam
Dammam is full of large shopping malls and shopping centres, featuring many well known international brands and supermarkets, and even more are still under construction. This really is a shopper’s dream! As well as visiting the modern shopping malls you should take time to see the more traditional side to shopping in Dammam and visit one of the markets, or souqs. There are numerous choices throughout the city.
When Should You Visit Dammam?
Dammam’s arid climate means the city remains quite dry throughout the year, though winter rainfall is marked – November and December are by far the wettest months, with less from January to May and none from June to October. The main type of weather to worry about is the heat, and Dammam stays hot year round. Average highs between May and October are above 35C (95F), making winter and spring maybe a better time to visit.
