Flights to Al-Fujairah
United Arab Emirates
Al-Fujairah is one of the emirates of the United Arab Emirates and the only one to be located on the Gulf of Oman rather than the Persian Gulf. Al-Fujairah is a friendly city and has a quieter atmosphere than most of the other emirates
Flights to Al-Fujairah
There is an airport in Al-Fujairah though it’s not open to commercial air travel at this time, so anyone wanting a flight to Al-Fujairah will need to fly via the Dubai International Airport (airport code: DXB). Getting from Dubai to Al-Fujairah is easy with regular buses and even taxis. It's about a 2 hour drive by car. Non-stop flights to Al-Fujairah (through Dubai) can be booked with Royal Brunei Airlines or Emirates Air from the UK. Lufthansa and British Midland stop once in Frankfurt, while Egyptair will connect in Cairo, instead.
Al-Fujairah Tourist Attractions
Al-Fujairah is the fifth largest emirate of the UAE, taking up only 1.5% of the country’s land area. It has a small population too, of around 130,000 people, making it the second smallest in terms of population. This makes Al-Fujairah a quieter alternative to the much busier emirates of Dubai or Abu Dhabi, but it also means there’s less here to do in the way of tourist attractions.
Currently Al-Fujairah is more of a business destination and not really recognised as a popular tourist spot for international travellers, though nationals do enjoy coming here for the cooler weather that Al-Fujairah enjoys especially when compared to the desert environment and scorching temperatures that can be common along the western coast of UAE.
Tourism is set to increase in Al-Fujairah though as there are plans for large scale developments to take place. A large resort is planned in the Dibba Al-Fujairah area, next to an existing luxurious beach resort. This new resort will include 1,000 five star rated villas plus hotels.
The beaches in this part of the emirate can be very nice, and as well as relaxing on a beach all day you can enjoy a good range of water sports. Diving is getting increasingly popular here as an alternative to some of the other popular destinations around the Middle East, or you can try out water skiing, wind surfing or jet skiing.
You can also use Al-Fujairah as a base for exploring some of the surroundings. Boat trips out to some of the many islands within the Gulf of Oman may be possible, or charter a boat and go on a fishing trip. Hiking in the surrounding mountains can provide some excellent coastal views, or take a trip into the nearby enclave of Sharjah, called Khor Fakkan.
When Should You Visit Al-Fujairah?
Al-Fujairah is generally cooler than the other emirates of the UAE as the climate is moderated by the mountains which also make this a wetter destination than the deserts of the rest of the country. Having said this, temperatures still remain warm all year round and can still get very hot in the summer with temperatures of over 40C (104F). The cooler months usually coincide with the rainfall, from October to March but daytime highs are still around 25C (77F) so very pleasant.
