One of the seven ‘Emirates’ of the United Arab Emirates, Dubai is often thought of as an individual entity because it’s building such a reputation as a tourist destination. With all the construction that’s been going on here in recent years, Dubai is becoming more and more known for its city landscape than the poorer historic areas that this emirate was once full of.

Flights to Dubai

International flights to Dubai arrive at the Dubai International Airport (airport code: DXB), the largest hub in the Middle East. Flights to Dubai from the UK may be either direct or indirect, depending upon which airline you choose. Non-stop direct flights to Dubai from the UK are offered by Emirates, or choose from a long list of other airlines, such as Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways, Cyprus Airways, Kuwait Airways, Egyptair, KLM, TAROM, Air France, British Airways, BMI, and Aeroflot who all provide flights to Dubai from the UK via one connection.

Dubai Tourist Attractions

Dubai’s reputation for building the biggest and best of everything is rightly deserved as this emirate has been building ‘super structures’ for some years now and there doesn’t seem to be much sign of this construction boom slowing down!

With all this construction Dubai has fast become one of the Middle East’s top tourist destinations, even despite its still strict laws and regulations which may put some people off a visit. The emirate is best known for its towering skyscrapers, shopping, and more, but if you’re coming to Dubai it’s worth seeking out some of the older parts of the emirate to see what Dubai was once like.

The Bastakiya District is a good place to do this. This is one of the few remaining areas of old Dubai where you’ll see traditional buildings. These are in such contrast now to the modern monoliths, but it’s worth remembering that all of Dubai was once like this!

If you are interested in the growth from poor to ultra-rich, make sure you take time to visit the Dubai Museum as this will show you how this transition occurred.

Of those impressive new buildings the Burj Dubai is probably the most famous. In the race to become the tallest building in the world, the Burj Dubai grew and grew to a dizzying 160 floors, which is 818 metres (2,684ft), making it the tallest man made structure ever. This building is about ready for its grand opening, and once it opens its observation decks are going to be a very popular attraction!

Dubai’s hotels are also aiming to be the biggest and the best. The beautiful architecture of the Burj al-Arab Hotel is very striking with its sail-like design. This hotel is marketed as the only 7 star hotel in the world! Its height has been surpassed by the Rose Tower, another top class hotel in Dubai that’s under construction.

As well as the amazing architecture in Dubai, visitors come here to enjoy the great shopping opportunities. From the traditional souks to some of the world’s largest shopping malls, you can buy everything here in Dubai! Just like the skyscrapers the battle was on to become the largest shopping mall in the world, and the Dubai Mall has earned that title! As well as the hundreds of shops there’s an aquarium and Under Water Zoo here plus the Dubai Ice Rink. Meanwhile in the Mall of the Emirates you can also enjoy hundreds of stores, as well as a ski slope with real snow!

After all the shopping and sightseeing make the most of Dubai’s wonderful white sandy beaches, visit the water park, Wadi Wadi, or take a trip to the world’s three largest artificial islands, The Palm Islands.

When Should You Visit Dubai?

From May to September the heat is too much for many visitors, so it may be better to visit between December and March when average daily highs are still hot, but pleasant.
