Ras Al Khaimah Tourist Attractions
If you’re planning to visit Dubai then it’s worthwhile taking a trip to Ras Al Khaimah as well, which with the new highway connecting the two is only about an hour’s drive now. Ras Al Khaimah is a quieter and less developed place with several tourist attractions of its own, and some beautiful beaches and scenery.
Ras Al Khaimah is nestled between the mountains on one side and the coast on the other so it’s quite a beautiful location. The mountains are the Hajjar Mountains and they separate the UAE from neighbouring Oman. Beneath the mountains you have deserts with some fantastic sand dunes, and beyond those the beautiful white sandy beaches to enjoy.
Besides these attractions Ras Al Khaimah also offers wildlife, though you wouldn’t think so with so much desert taking up the emirate! There are actually wildlife conservation areas and sanctuaries here.
As with many other destinations around the world golf has become very popular in Ras Al Khaimah and it’s actually now one of the emirate’s top sporting activities.
Shopping isn’t as big in Ras Al Khaimah as it is in Dubai for example, but if you want to do some shopping while visiting Ras Al Khaimah there are numerous supermarkets and several old and new shopping malls to try out. Manar Mall is one of them and it’s the oldest shopping mall in Ras Al Khaimah. Despite some newer malls being built this one has retained is popularity because it’s located right in the heart of the city of Ras Al Khaimah.
In the future you’ll be able to take a space flight from Ras Al Khaimah as this is going to be the location of the Ras Al Khaimah Spaceport that will be used for space tourism in the Space Adventures Explorer spaceplane.
When Should You Visit Ras Al Khaimah?
Like the rest of the UAE Ras Al Khaimah stays warm to hot all year round. The summertime high temperatures (between May and September) can be too hot for many foreign visitors so you may like to visit in the winter instead when temperatures are still warm but not quite so hot.
