Kelowna is a city that’s situated in the Okanagan region of the interior of British Columbia in Western Canada. This increasingly popular city offers activities for visitors to enjoy throughout the year and is famous for its vineyards and local orchards.

Flights to Kelowna

The Kelowna International Airport (airport code: YLW) is one of the busiest in all of Canada. It's located about a 10 minute drive northeast of Kelowna. From London, there are several routes to choose from for a flight to Kelowna. Both Air Canada and British Midland have a 1-stop route that connects in Calgary, or a flight with British Airways travels through Seattle instead. For a completely different route, Lufthansa transfers in Frankfurt and then again in Vancouver. You could also consider a charter flight to Kelowna, travelling via either Vancouver or Calgary (though Calgary is more sensible), flying from the UK with Thomas Cook Airlines or Air Transat, then transferring to a flight with a Canadian carrier such as WestJet, or Air Canada Jazz.

Kelowna Tourist Attractions

Kelowna isn’t best known for specific tourist attractions but for its combination of outdoor activities that are available around the city itself, and within a short distance of the city limits. It’s very much a four seasons destination with several ski resorts in easy reach for the winter, a multitude of things to see and do in the summer, and a good selection of spring and autumnal attractions too.

Okanagan Lake

Kelowna sits on the shores of Okanagan Lake and so the lake features highly in both locals and visitors itineraries during the summer. There are several public parks adjacent to the lake that include some great beaches, and although you may not expect hot weather in Canada you’ll find the Okanagan Valley receives plenty of hot weather and around 2,000 hours of sunshine per year! This makes Kelowna a great place to come for relaxing on the beach, swimming and enjoying the lake in other ways such as water sports, fishing, and keeping an eye out for the resident monster, Ogopogo!

Kelowna Parks

In addition to those lakeside parks there are plenty of other open spaces around Kelowna. One of the city’s top parks is Knox Mountain Park. Here you can enjoy hiking and picnicking, and if you climb up Mout Knox you’ll be rewarded with some great Kelowna city views and views of Lake Okanagan.

Arts and Culture in Kelowna

Downtown Kelowna has developed into a vibrant and culturally rich place where you can enjoy a café scene that rivals Seattle! There are also some great pubs, restaurants, entertainment, and shopping facilities here. If you’re interested in museums, Kelowna has an Art Gallery and the Kelowna Museum on offer.

Skiing in Kelowna

Though there isn’t a ski resort right in the city you don’t have to go far to find one! Two resorts are within easy reach – Big White and Silver Star, both of which are growing in size and reputation.

Vineyards and Orchards in Kelowna

While there are a couple of vineyards and orchards right within Kelowna itself, you’ll find countless more in the surrounding region. If you enjoy tasting wines and want to go on a wine tour this is a great place to do it, even rivalling those in places like California.

When Should You Visit Kelowna?

Being a four season destination you can really visit Kelowna at any time of the year. The summertime weather may surprise some visitors with plenty of sunshine and high temperatures in the mid 30’s C very common. The climate is semi arid so it’s relatively dry here too. The continental influence means that winters are quite cool and snowy, though this is great if you want to go skiing!
