Two miles outside the city is the Medicine Hat Airport (airport code: YXH). The only airline that offers a 1-stop flight to Medicine Hat when travelling from London is Air Canada. Their route has a transfer in Calgary. The alternative is to book a flight to Calgary with another airline such as British Airways or Thomas Cook Airlines then book a separate flight to Medicine Hat with Air Canada Jazz, or simply drive from Calgary.

Medicine Hat is an attractive city with plenty of parks and open spaces as well as a number of specific tourist attractions including a historic district and a giant tepee! Medicine Hat Clay Industries National Historic District
This historic district in Medicine Hat is a reminder of earlier industries in the city, especially the abundance of clay and the fact that this abundance attracted potters and glass makers into Medicine Hat. Today most of the businesses have closed down or moved away but the historic district has been established as a sort of living museum where you can take guided tours, see exhibits and collections and take part in educational activities.
World’s Largest Tepee
Medicine Hat is home to the world’s largest tepee! This huge tepee frame was built for the Calgary Winter Olympics in 1988 and stands more than 20 storeys high. It has been here in Medicine Hat since 1991 and First Nations artwork has been added to its interior panels.
The Esplanade
The Esplanade is a major cultural centre that was designed to be multi purpose and provide space for theatre and musical productions, art displays and other events. It’s also home to the municipal museum and art gallery so there’s something here for everyone.
Medicine Hat’s Parks
Medicine Hat has numerous public parks where you can enjoy nature, walking, swimming, canoeing, and numerous other activities. Police Point Park is one of the largest ones and is the ideal destination for those who like to bird watch and enjoy nature, with a number of trails that follow the path of the South Saskatchewan River. Another is Echodale Regional Park where there’s a swimming lake with beach, walking trails, canoe rentals and more and is very popular during the summer.

Medicine Hat is one of the sunniest cities in Canada, enjoying high amounts of sunshine throughout the year. In terms of temperatures, summers are fairly hot with average highs around 27C in July and August. Spring and autumn are short seasons while winters are longer and cold – the average high in January is just -4.5C.
