Regina is the capital city of the province of Saskatchewan in Canada. It’s the second largest city in the province, behind Saskatoon, and it’s an attractive city of many trees and waters.

Flights to Regina

The Regina International Airport (airport code: YQR) handles mainly traffic from within Canada but does have a few regular flights from outside the country. The airport is only a few minutes by taxi or bus from the downtown core of the city. A flight to Regina from the UK with one stop can be booked with Air Canada or British Airways, with both transferring in Toronto. Virgin Atlantic also transfers in Toronto, but connects in Chicago first. Another option is with Lufthansa. Their flight to Regina stops in Frankfurt and then Calgary. Alternatively you could catch a flight to Toronto or Winnipeg then transfer to WestJet or Air Canada Jazz for a flight to Regina.

Royal Saskatchewan Museum

The first museum to be established in the province of Saskatchewan the Royal Saskatchewan Museum was formed in 1906. The museum focuses on natural history and objects of ethnological interest and as such it offers a First Nations gallery and Life Sciences section. The features of the province are described in detail and the half size robotic T-Rex is especially popular with children!

RCMP Heritage Centre

Situated within the grounds of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police national training centre is the RCMP Heritage Centre. This is a museum where you can see a number of RCMP related exhibits and artefacts, both temporary and permanent, showcasing the history and the work of the RCMP.

Saskatchewan Science Centre and IMAX

The Saskatchewan Science Centre is housed within Regina’s former powerhouse building that dates from 1914. The lakeside setting of the powerhouse is an attraction in itself, while the museum is popular with families. Right next door, in a far newer building is the Kramer IMAX Theatre used in conjunction with the museum to educate both adults and children.

Casino Regina

Whether you’re into gambling or not Casino Regina is an interesting place to visit as it’s housed within the old Regina Union Station. This imposing building was first constructed back in 1911 as the city’s train station but low empty for several years from the early 1990’s until being converted into a casino in 1995. Many of the old station features have been kept making this a fairly unique building considering its current use!

Regina Parks

Regina is a city of many parks, in fact it is said to have more parks and greenspace per capita than any other major Canadian city. One of the largest urban parks in North America is Wascana Centre on the shores of the manmade Wascana Lake. This park covers 2300 acres and houses the Science Centre, an outdoor pool, marina with boat rentals, walking and cycling paths, the Saskatchewan Legislative Building and more.

Other notable parks in Regina include Victoria Park in Regina’s Market Square, Central Park, and AE Wilson Park.

When Should You Visit Regina?

Regina is often prone to extremes of weather so you can never be quite sure of what the weather will be like when you visit! The city has a fairly arid climate though so rainfall is low throughout the year. In general, summers are warm and this is the wetter time of the year. July is warmest with an average high temperature of 26C (79F). In the winter you can get major snowstorms and temperatures can plummet. January is the coldest month with an average high of -11C (12F) and low of -22C (-8F).
