Canada’s Vancouver is situated in the Pacific West of the country and being located on a peninsula is surrounded by water on three sides. The water has long been important for the development of the city, growing as a port for Western Canada, and now an important harbour, but it also means there are plenty of recreational opportunities in Vancouver too; just part of the appeal of this vibrant city.

Vancouver Tourist Attractions
Vancouver appeals to many different tastes and on different levels. This is a vibrant city, rich in culture and ethnic diversity having long attracted immigrants from around the world. It’s also a great outdoors city, and is fairly unique in that there aren’t many cities in the world where you can sit on a beach then half an hour later be on a ski hill!
There are numerous attractions here, many of which will involve being outdoors, but with the mild climate Vancouver can be visited at any time of the year.
Stanley Park
Almost as famous New York’s Central Park, but far bigger, is Stanley Park. Both locals and visitors alike love Stanley Park and all that it has to offer. As well as being a great place for a walk or bicycle ride there are several popular attractions here too. The Seawall runs around the outside of the park and is a great place for a walk, run or ride and offers some excellent views of downtown Vancouver, or head to the interior of Stanley Park where there are forest trails. The park also features several great beaches that are very popular especially during the summer months.
Vancouver Aquarium is within the park and makes a great visit for the whole family with its good variety of sea creatures, shows and feeding displays. Stanley Park is also very well known for its intricate Totem Poles.
Chinatown
Vancouver boasts the second largest Chinatown in North America (after San Francisco). This is a nice area to walk around and admire the architecture, enjoy the shops and the restaurants, or head for Dr Sun Yat Sen’s Classical Gardens, a beautiful Chinese garden with koi ponds, pergola’s, plants and trees.
Gastown
The historic heart of Vancouver is Gastown. The area was re-developed a few years back and now has many attractive shops, restaurants and bars, plus the Gastown Steam Clock!
Granville Island
Across False Creek from downtown Vancouver is Granville Island. Not actually an island, this part of the city has an artsy feel to it with lots of small galleries and boutique shops, a brewery tour, entertainment, restaurants and more.
