Whistler Tourist Attractions
Whistler as a Winter Destination
There’s no doubting the fact that Whistler is an extremely popular winter destination because of the great skiing and other winter sports you can enjoy in the area. Whistler Village is at the heart of this resort town which in turn is at the heart of Whistler Blackcomb, the largest ski resort in North America. Whistler and Blackcomb used to be two separate competing ski resorts but as they grew and grew they got closer together and so the decision was made to merge them into one huge ski resort. This means visitors to Whistler these days have an abundance of great skiing and can move between the two mountain peaks by way of the famous Peak 2 Peak Gondola.
In terms of skiing Whistler may be huge but it’s also usually the most visited ski resort in North America too. This means winters here are very busy so although there are numerous ski lifts and runs to choose from you’re likely to have to face long lift queues especially when visiting Whistler right in the peak winter season.
Whistler as a Summer Destination
In more recent years Whistler has been getting more and more popular as a summer destination too. You’ll find all the obvious opportunities here for hiking and enjoying the spectacular mountain scenery, but mountain biking has really taken off. With over 50 mountain biking runs to choose from bikers can spend weeks here enjoying Whistler.
For a slower pace of activity there are three championship-worthy golf courses here in Whistler, and there are also a number of places to go rock climbing. A little further south on the Sea to Sky Highway there are many other rock climbing opportunities too, which are easily accessible from Whistler.
Whistler Village
Whistler Village has really grown since the two ski resorts merged. The village has won numerous design awards and makes a great place to spend a few days on holiday. There are many places to eat, drink and be merry in Whistler Village, and of course an abundance of places to stay.
When Should You Visit Whistler?
For skiing and other winter sports you’ll obviously want to visit during the winter! The exact winter season varies year on year depending on the weather but it’s usually from November or December to around March. If you’re coming for mountain biking this too is dependent on weather, but usually the bike park is open from mid May to mid October.
