Cancun Tourist Attractions
As you might expect, Cancun is first and foremost a beach holiday destination and a very beautiful one at that! The Cancun region is known as the Mexican Caribbean as the coast fronts the Caribbean Sea and there’s an abundance of the kind of beaches and vistas you would expect to see in the Caribbean proper. Beautiful white sandy beaches and turquoise, warm blue waters are very inviting and many visitors enjoy coming here to simply relax on the beach working on a sun tan. Although this is what the region is famous for you can actually enjoy so much more on a holiday in Cancun.
Along with the numerous hotels (ranging from budget to 5 star) the Hotel Zone has everything else you could possibly want when on holiday. This is a lively area hat includes hotels, beaches, shops, entertainment, water sports, theme parks and more. If you’re travelling with children a visit to the Interactive Aquarium is bound to go down well. Situated right in the heart of the hotel zone this aquarium is small but of a good quality and includes the chance to swim with dolphins. If you’d like to do a dolphin swim there are also several private companies who offer these opportunities too.
The Mayan Riviera
Cancun is one of the gateways into the Mayan Riviera, a very popular tourism area along this coastline. Spend a day trip or two exploring this part of the coast as it’s truly stunning. Enjoy diving on the world’s second largest barrier reef system, or take part in numerous other water sports.
Archaeological Sites
Also within easy reach of Cancun are several of Mexico’s spectacular archaeological sites. Take a tour or rent a car yourself and visit some of these famous sites. There’s Tulum, on the coast, which is one of the best preserved Mayan coastal sites, or slightly inland is another site, Coba. The most famous Mayan site of the Yucatan Peninsula is further inland but still close enough to visit – Chichen Itza is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and well worth the visit fro Cancun.
When Should You Visit Cancun?
Cancun has a wonderful tropical climate giving visitors warm temperatures throughout the year, however this shouldn’t really be considered a year-round destination due to severe weather. The tropical storm season is from May to December, and September is the wettest month. Early in the year is often the best time to visit for pleasant temperatures are drier weather.
