Ciudad Juarez is a city in Mexico in the state of Chihuahua, situated on the Rio Grande in the north of the country and close to the border with the United States. Ciudad Juarez does have a selection of tourist attractions, and its proximity to the US city of El Paso in Texas makes it a popular place to enter Mexico, however there are problems with violence and poverty.

If you are flying to Ciudad Juarez, you'll be arriving at the Abraham Gonzalez International Airport (airport code: CJS). Most flights to Ciudad Juarez from the UK have 2 stops, but Mexicana Airlines has a 1-stop route with a connection in Mexico City. You can also book a flight that goes through New York as well as Mexico City, with either Virgin Atlantic or American Airlines. Delta Airlines also takes the same route. Most flights to Ciudad Juarez are around 20 hours long.
Ciudad Juarez Tourist Attractions
Although Ciudad Juarez does have an assortment of tourist attractions recent violence in the city makes this a dangerous place to go, and travel without consulting the Foreign Office is not recommended. With a very high murder rate Ciudad Juarez has even been known as the most dangerous place in the world, and although most of the problems are drug and gang related it’s still not particularly safe to visit here just in case you are caught up in a disagreement. Some guides will recommend that if you stick to the tourist attractions and don’t venture into an unknown street or go out alone after dark that you should be safe, but this is a risk all the same. Ciudad Juarez has a mixture of historical and modern attractions and includes museums, parks, a theme park and a vibrant assortment of bars, restaurants and shops, so when you set aside the problems this city has Ciudad Juarez is actually a nice place to visit.
Of the historical attractions is the Guadalupe Mission. This is the oldest building still standing in Ciudad Juarez and it was built in the 17th century. Since its construction the mission has continuously been used by the Catholic church. The old city hall is another historical attraction, and it was built in the 19th century.
Among the museums in Ciudad Juarez is a good one if you’re interested in the Concorde. The Museo del Concorde is dedicated to this popular supersonic airliner that was retired in 2003. There are numerous Concorde parts to see as well as a collection of model airplanes that’s 200 strong. Guided tours of the museum are available during opening hours, which are Sunday to Wednesday.
In terms of parks and recreation Ciudad Juarez has a fair amount to offer too. The city is home to the largest extreme theme park in Mexico, aptly called Parque Xtremo, plus there’s a popular recreational park called Central Park, and one called Parque Chamizal.
When Should You Visit Ciudad Juarez?
Ciudad Juarez has four seasons and due to its arid climate there’s little in the way of rainfall year round. From May to September you can expect average highs of above 30C (88F+). Spring and autumn can be nice and mild and while winters are generally mild, sometimes there can be cold snaps.
