Most people come to this Mexican city for the water and the beach, but there are several other sights and attractions around Manzanillo that you should visit while you are here too.

Flights to Manzanillo

The airport for flights to Manzanillo is the Playa de Oro International Airport (airport code: ZLO), about a 35 minute drive outside the city. There is no bus service, just taxis or rental cars. Manzanillo Tourist Attractions

Water Sports

The warm waters are the biggest attraction of Manzanillo, though it's up to you how you enjoy them. Scuba diving and snorkelling are popular even if you've never tried either one before. Dive centres will give you the training you need before you head out. There are several reefs to see, and even a local shipwreck. The area is full of beaches, bays, and coves for swimming and walking along. You can also hire a boat to take you out deep-sea fishing. Sailfish are a common sight in the area and can make a great trophy.

Juega, Juega Casino

You can spend your money on the slots, or place sports bets on whatever games are playing. You can watch the games on one of 10 wide-screen TVs while you're there. Coffee and soda is free, and there is a full bar and restaurant on the premises. The casino is open until after midnight, until 4am on the weekends. It's closed Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays though. Minimum age to gamble or drink is 18, and ID is required.

Volcano Tours

There are two local volcanoes near Manzanillo, Nevado de Colima and Volcan de Colima, with the second one currently active. Many tour groups offer great volcano hikes as a day trip from Manzanillo (it’s about an hour’s drive away). Most tours include a visit to the local coffee, banana or mango plantations too.

Tampumacchay

Tampumacchay is an open-air archaeological museum where you can walk around outside to see ancient rock carvings and other sculptures. Display cases protect the smaller artefacts but the majority of the exhibits are just out there to see and touch. It’s not far from Manzanillo to the east, and there is a restaurant there as well as a swimming pool. If you enjoy archaeology, you should also consider seeing the University Museum of Archaeology which is right in Manzanillo.

When Should You Visit Manzanillo?

Temperature-wise, it doesn't matter very much when you plan your trip to Manzanillo. It's typically around 30C (86F), though a degree or two cooler from December until April, and a degree or two warmer between June and August. On the other hand, some months are much rainier than others. It rains quite a bit in Manzanillo in July, August and September but the other months are quite dry. Overall, a trip from December until May is usually ideal.
