Los Angeles Tourist Attractions

Visitors to Los Angeles should never get bored as there is certainly a great deal to do here. There’s a lot of variety too, even though many people think of Los Angeles as being Hollywood and Beverly Hills, this is not just what the city is about.

Los Angeles proper is the City of Los Angeles, though there is a huge metropolitan area too. This metro area includes numerous neighbourhoods such as Hollywood, Santa Monica, Venice Beach, and Long Beach which are actually cities in their own right. If you’re not staying in LA for very long, there are a number of attractions that should be on your list of must sees; these include…

Of course, most visitors to Los Angeles want to see Hollywood! The Hollywood sign is as iconic as the American flag, and you can seen this from most parts of Hollywood. Driving up into the Hollywood Hills is a popular attraction as you get to admire many million dollar properties and get great views too! Back down in Hollywood itself is Hollywood Boulevard. This street is home to the famous Grauman’s Chinese Theater. This impressive building opened in 1927 and has hosted many movie premiers, Oscar ceremonies and more. Finally the Walk of Fame is worth seeing. Look out for all your favourite stars that are embedded in the sidewalk – there are now over 2000 of them!

Staying in the Hollywood area, one of the city’s top attractions is Universal City, and the Universal Studios Hollywood Theme Park. Probably the world’s most famous movie studios, they opened their doors many many years ago to offer backlot tours. Although the backlot tours still go on to this day there’s now a lot more to see and do here too!

The Griffith Park Observatory may not sound like a place many tourists would like to visit but in fact there are several reasons why you might want to travel up the hill. For starters there are the great views over Los Angeles from here. Also movie buffs are sure to recognise this famous structure because it has appeared in a great many films over the years.

Los Angeles Metro area is also home to several other very popular theme parks, in addition to Universal Studios – the first Disney World is here (situated in Anaheim), plus there is the Six Flags Magic Mountain theme park too, great for extreme roller coaster lovers!

Los Angeles is also very famous for its beaches. These all have something a little different to offer apart from the wide sandy beaches and great surf, so try to visit several different neighbourhoods to get a good feel for them.

When Should You Visit Los Angeles?

Los Angeles has a Mediterranean climate and benefits from warm to hot temperatures all year round. Although winters are a little cooler and wetter this is still a great time to visit many of the city’s attractions and it’s often quieter than the busy summer months.
