Colorado Springs Tourist Attractions

Colorado Springs is an ever popular tourist destination as it has so much to offer. Throughout the year there’s always something to keep visitors occupied, and usually it involves the great outdoors!

Pikes Peak

The best known attraction in Colorado Springs is Pikes Peak. This is a mountain that stands above the city and as such you can enjoy some wonderful views if you travel to the top. You can get there by the scenic cog railway, or simply drive your own car up the popular road. If you want to spend more time making your ascent, and have the energy, why not hike up Barr Trail, or take part in the Pikes Peak Ascent or Pikes Peak Marathon if you want a real challenge?!

Cave of the Winds

Just outside Colorado Springs is Cave of the Winds, a complex of caves that are mostly open to the public. You can enjoy guided tours within the caves that are accessible and open. The best known room, though one that has to be sealed off in order to protect the environment, is the Silent Splendor room where rare crystalline speleotherms have formed.

Close by to the cave of the Winds are the Manitou Cliff Dwellings. This is an interesting attraction that is not authentic as the dwellings were constructed in the early 1900s as a tourist attraction.

Garden of the Gods

Along with Pikes Peak another famous attraction of Colorado Springs is the Garden of the Gods. You won’t find flower and plant displays here but you will find unique sandstone rock formations that are fully accessible to the public as they are located within one of Colorado Springs’ city parks. If you’re an experienced rock climber there are some challenging rocks to climb, though even amateurs can have a go here. For tourists who prefer to keep their feet on the ground there are numerous hiking trails to explore in the Garden of the Gods too.

Museums in Colorado Springs

Taking a break from all the outdoor adventure Colorado Springs also offers a number of museums. The Ghost Town Museum is particularly popular as it features an 1800s old west town where you can actually pan for gold!
