Denver, the Mile High City, is the capital and largest city of the state of Colorado in the Rocky Mountain region of the United States. This vibrant city has much to see and do and is a great base for exploring other parts of the state too.
International flights to Denver are welcomed in the Denver International Airport (airport code: DEN). Travellers flying to Denver from the UK can choose to fly either direct or indirect flights. Airlines offering non-stop flights to Denver from the UK are United Airlines, BMI, Continental Airlines, and British Airways. Airlines such as US Airways, Virgin Atlantic Airways and Air France are among the airlines providing travellers one stop flights to Colorado from the UK.

Nicknamed the Mile High City because of its status of being at least one mile high in elevation, Denver is a city that mixes cosmopolitan with traditional resulting in a fun and interesting city to visit.
Denver Museums
Denver is a city of many museums, covering a fairly wide selection of subjects. The Denver Museum of Nature and Science is one of the more popular to visit and is situated within the City Park where you’ll also find Denver Zoo (see below). The museum features numerous exhibitions as well as a planetarium and an IMAX cinema.
Colorado Historical Society contains the Colorado History Museum where you can find out more about the history of the city and the state, and also on the subject of history the Molly Brown House Museum and Byers-Evans House Museum are also popular. Other museums include the Children’s Museum of Denver, and the Denver Firefighters Museum.
For art lovers, Denver has two art museums – the Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, and the Denver Art Museum both of which feature a good variety of works.
Colorado Parks and Gardens
The City Park is popular for a number of reasons. Located just east of downtown it’s easily accessible for one thing, and being so large it has lots to see and do. There are two lakes for example, and for visitors travelling with children there are numerous playgrounds and fields to play in, plus there’s even a golf course. The Denver Museum of Nature and Science is here, as is the Denver Zoo. Open every day of the year the Denver Zoo is always one of the city’s top attractions. Washington Park is another large Denver park.
You may also like to visit the Denver Botanic Gardens. This is a 23 acre park which has several themed gardens including the attractive Japanese Garden, called the Garden of Wind and Pines.
A park of a different kind can be found at the Six Flags Elitch Gardens, a theme park with thrill rides, or there’s one of the largest water parks in the USA, called Waterworld, to enjoy during the summer.
Nightlife in Denver
Denver is a bustling city at night and has many bars and microbreweries to try. There are actually more microbreweries per capita than any other state!
When Should You Visit Denver?
Despite its elevation and the fact that there are some very high mountains nearby, Denver is actually quite a warm city with hot and sunny summers. There are four distinct seasons here though, so although spring and autumn are mild, winters can be quite harsh with cold temperatures and snowfall.
