Idaho Falls is a relatively small city though it’s the largest in Eastern Idaho in the United States. Tourists coming from the UK might not have heard of Idaho Falls but it’s actually frequently ranked in lists of best places to live, often because it’s located so close to many great outdoor attractions. Places like Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks are within reach of Idaho Falls.

Flights to Idaho Falls

Flights to Idaho Falls will come to the Idaho Regional Airport (airport code: IDA), but you will be connecting once in the U.S because it doesn't accept incoming international flights. American Airlines and Continental Airlines both take the same path for their flight to Idaho Falls from the UK, with stops in Chicago and Denver. A flight with Air Canada goes through Toronto and Denver instead. And for yet another route through Denver, book with British Airways, as their flight to Idaho Falls stops in both Dallas and Denver.

Idaho Falls Tourist Attractions

Idaho Falls is best known as a gateway to the great outdoors, so you’re more likely to visit the city on a touring holiday rather than planning to come here for a full two weeks. There are some attractions within the city itself though, and a good range of attractive hotels, and great places to eat, so this is a place that you could spend a few nights in.

Idaho Falls Idaho Temple

The major interesting landmark for the city of Idaho Falls is the Idaho Falls Idaho Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It was the first temple for the Mormons to be built in Idaho and was dedicated in 1945. Though you may not be interested in the religious aspect of this building, the architecture is definitely eye-catching with its wedding cake-like layers and white exterior. A popular photo opportunity of the temple exists from across the Snake River as if you position yourself correctly you can get in the river, the falls and the temple.

Idaho Falls River Walk

Talking of the river, a popular place to walk within the city is the Idaho Falls River Walk. This trail runs for 6 miles alongside the Snake River and is a very scenic part of the city. The Snake River is also renowned for its world-class fishing so you may see people fishing here.

The Museum of Idaho

The Museum of Idaho is the major museum for the city of Idaho Falls and it is dedicated to the history of the state, exhibiting local artefacts and accounting historical events. There are also often very good travelling exhibits here, so check what’s on while you’re visiting Idaho Falls.

Outside Idaho Falls

Once you’ve seen the sights of Idaho Falls you can check out some of the USA’s most famous destinations, Yellowstone National Park and Grand Teton National Park, both of which are within reach of the city.

When Should You Visit Idaho Falls?

Idaho Falls is quite a dry city so rainfall shouldn’t be a major problem whatever time of year you visit. In the middle of summer it gets pretty hot here, with an average high of 30C in July and August. Either side of these months are pleasant too, but temperatures really drop off in November to just 6C, and then drop below freezing over the winter, rising again to a comfortable level from April.
