Baltimore Tourist Attractions

Baltimore is a historic city that owes much of its history to Chesapeake Bay; the third largest estuary in the world. This huge body of water meant that Baltimore grew up as a harbour town, and still today it’s an important port for the eastern United States. Much of the city’s tourism has developed around the harbour too, and the Inner Harbor is home to many of Baltimore’s top tourist attractions.

Baltimore Inner Harbor

The Inner Harbor in Baltimore has really made the most of its location throughout history. Today visitors will find remains of the city’s history here, combined with new and modern attractions that make this one of the city’s most popular spots for locals and visitors alike.

In terms of history you can visit the last sail powered warship to be built by the US Navy. The USS Constellation was built in 1854 and it’s now the only Civil War era ship that’s still afloat. The ship is open for tours.

Fort McHenry is another of Baltimore’s historic attractions and is famous because this is where the United States national anthem, the Star Spangled Banner was written. Inland is the historic maritime neighbourhood of Fell’s Point.

More modern attractions in the Inner Harbor include the city’s aquarium, the National Aquarium, which is reputed to be one of the best in the USA. There’s also the Baltimore Maritime Museum and the American Visionary Art Museum.

World Trade Center

The World Trade Center of Baltimore has an observation deck called Top of the World. It’s not exactly a huge skyscraper, but it does give visitors some great views over Baltimore including over the Inner Harbor.
